Kid's Starfish Sweater

This whimsical knit sweater pattern is a darling way to celebrate the wonder of the deep blue sea with your child.   • Worsted Prints acrylic; 100g/180 yds)
    • 21 Happy Baby (MC) – 2 (2, 2, 3, 3) balls
  • Worsted Solids acrylic; 113g/203 yds)
    • 16 Kiwi (CC1) – 1 ball, all sizes
    • 41 Flame Orange (CC2) – 1 ball, all sizes
    • 40 Hot Fuchsia (CC3) – 1 ball, all sizes
    • 39 Bright Violet (CC4) – 1 ball, all sizes
  • Needles: US Size 7 (4.5 mm) 24” circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge

Body
Sweater is worked in stockinette stitch, except where noted.
Work Rows 10 (5, 1, 1, 1) - 48 of Front chart. Work even in St st with MC, if necessary, until Back meas 8 (9, 10, 11, 12)” from cast-on edge, ending with WS row.

Raglan Shaping
Dec Row: K2, k2tog, knit to last 4 sts, ssk, k2 – 2 sts dec’d.
Next Row: Purl.
Rep these 2 rows, 12 (13, 14, 15, 17) more times – 22 sts rem. Break MC.
With CC1, work in K1, P1 Ribbing for ¾”. Bind off sts in patt.

FRONT

With CC 1, cast on 48 (50, 52, 54, 58) sts.

Hem
Beg with Row 1, work 8 rows of K2, P2 Ribbing.

Body

With CC1, cast on 28 (30, 32, 34, 36) sts

Cuff
Hem

Beg with Row 1, work 8 rows of K2, P2 Ribbing.

Increase Section
Inc Row: With MC, k1, m1, knit to last st, m1, k1 – 2 sts inc’d. Work 5 (7, 11, 11, 13) rows even in St st. Rep these 6 (8, 12, 12, 14) rows, 2 more times, then rep Inc Row once more – 36 (38, 40, 42, 44) sts. Work even in MC and St st until Sleeve meas 11” from cast-on edge, ending with WS row.

Raglan Shaping
Dec Row: K2, k2tog, knit to last 4 sts, ssk, k2 – 2 sts dec’d.
Next Row: Purl.
Rep these 2 rows, 12 (13, 14, 15, 17) more times – 10 (10, 10, 10, 8) sts rem. Break MC.
With CC1, work in K1, P1 Ribbing for ¾”. Bind off sts in patt.


RIGHT SLEEVE

Work as for Left Sleeve, but when Sleeve meas 4½ (5, 5½, 6, 6½)” from cast-on , introduce sleeve chart as follows:
Next row (RS): K3 (4, 5, 6, 7), work Row 1 of sleeve chart across 10 sts, knit to end with MC. Cont to work chart through row 9. Complete as for Left Sleeve.


FINISHING

Front Sleeve Edging
Left Edging

With RS facing, beg at lower left Front (underarm edge), pick up and knit 26 (28, 30, 32, 36) sts along raglan seam. Work 3 rows in k1, p1 Ribbing.

Buttonhole row: K1, p1, k1, * k2tog, yo, work 7 (8, 9, 10, 12) sts in ribbing; rep from * once, k2tog, yo, work in rib to end – 3 buttonholes.
Work 3 more rows in ribbing. Bind off sts in patt.

Right Edging
With RS facing, beg at upper right front (neck edge), pick up and knit 26 (28, 30, 32, 36) sts along raglan seam. Complete as for Left Edging
Sew Back raglan seams. Sew sleeve and side seams.
Sew buttons to fronts of sleeves, beneath buttonholes. Weave in ends.
