INSTRUCTIONS

The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).

Note: Add stellar appeal with applique stars, or duplicate stitch your lucky number right up front.

BACK

**With MC and smaller needles cast on 71 (79-87-91-97) sts.
1st row: (RS). K1. *P1. K1. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: P1. *K1. P1. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep these 2 rows (K1. P1) ribbing for 2 ins [5 cm] ending on a 2nd row and inc 4 sts evenly across last row. 75 (83-91-95-101) sts.
Change to larger needles and proceed in stocking st until Back from beg measures 9½ (10½- 11½-13-14½) ins [24 (26.5-29-33- 37) cm], ending with RS facing for next row. Place markers at each end of last row.
With A, work 6 rows even in stocking st.**
With B, cont even until work from beg measures 16½ (18-20-22-24) ins [42 (45.5-51-56-61) cm] ending with RS facing for next row.
Shoulder shaping:
Cast off 11 (13-15-16-17) sts beg next 2 rows, then 12 (14-15-16-17) sts beg following 2 rows. Leave rem 29 (29-31-31-33) sts on a st holder.

 

FRONT

Work from ** to ** as given for Back.
With B, cont even until Front from beg measures 18 (18-20-20-20) rows less than Back to shoulder shaping, ending with RS facing for next row.

Neck shaping:
Next row: K30 (33-37-38-41) (neck edge). Turn.
Leave rem sts on a spare needle.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 4 rows, then on following 3 (2-3-2- 3) alt rows. 23 (27-30-32-34) sts.
Work 7 (9-9-11-9) rows even ending with RS facing for next row.

Shoulder shaping:
Cast off 11 (13-15-16-17) sts beg next row.
Work 1 row even. Cast off rem 12 (14-15-16-17) sts.
With RS of work facing slip next 15 (17-17-19-19) sts from spare needle onto a st holder. Join yarn to rem sts and knit to end of row.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 4 rows, then on following 3 (2-3-2- 3) alt rows. 23 (27-30-32-34) sts.
Work 8 (10-10-12-10) rows even ending with WS facing for next row.

Shoulder shaping:
Cast off 11 (13-15-16-17) sts beg next row.
Work 1 row even. Cast off rem 12 (14-15-16-17) sts.

 

SLEEVES

With MC and smaller needles cast on 31 (33-33-35-35) sts. Work 2 ins [5 cm] in (K1. P1) ribbing as given for Back ending on a 2nd row and inc 12 sts evenly across last row. 43 (45-45-47-47) sts.
Number Version Only: Change to A and larger needles and work 2 rows in stocking st.
Both Versions: Change to B and proceed in stocking st inc 1 st each end of needle on 5th and following alt rows to 57 (53-55-55- 57) sts, then on following 4th rows to 71 (75-85-91-95) sts.
Cont even until work from beg measures 11 (13½-15-16-17½) ins [28 (35-38-41-45) cm] ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off.

 

FINISHING

Pin to measurements and cover with a damp cloth leaving to dry on garment.

Neckband:
Sew right shoulder seam. With RS of work facing, MC and smaller needles, pick up and knit 18 (18-20-20-20) sts down left front neck edge. K15 (17-17-19- 19) from front st holder. Pick up and knit 18 (18-20-20-20) sts up right front neck edge. K29 (29-31- 31-33) sts from Back st holder dec 1 st in center. 79 (81-87-89-91) sts.
Beg and ending on a 2nd row, work 2½ (2½-3-3-3) ins [6 (6-8-8- 8) cm] in (K1. P1) ribbing as given for Back. Cast off loosely in ribbing. Sew left shoulder and neckband seam. Fold neckband in half to WS and sew loosely in position. Sew in sleeves between markers. Sew side and sleeve seams.
Number Version only: With C, duplicate st number of choice on center Front of Sweater.
Star Version only: Sew star appliques randomly on sweater as illustrated.
