How to Knit a Bulky Hat Instructions

Notes: knit flat and seamed

  1. CO 22 sts

  2. Row 1-6: sl1 knitwise, p1, (k1, p1), rpt ( to ) across.

  3. Row 7: (RS) sl1 knitwise, k across.

  4. Row 8: (WS) sl1 wyif, p across.

  5. Repeat rows 7-8 four times total (repeat more times if taller hat is desired).

  6. Row 9: (RS) sl1 knitwise, (k3, ssk), rpt ( to ) to last st,  k1. 18 sts

  7. Row 10: (WS) sl 1f, (p2tog, p2), rpt ( to ) to last, st k1. 14 sts

  8. Row 11: (RS) sl1 knitwise, (k1, ssk), rpt ( to ) to last st, k1. 10 sts

  9. Row 12: (WS) p2tog across. 5 sts

  10. Break yarn with generous tail and draw tail through last four loops and tighten.

  11. Use long tail to sew the hat into a round, from crown to brim.

This yarn is actually a #7 jumbo yarn, I have a few errant balls kicking around, I'm going to try this to use them up.

I've always wondered how to knit a hat flat! Now it makes sense. I love that bulky yarn, and how quick this project would be. I'll have to make it for next winter!
