"There is no specific cast-on to achieve this edge. You can just knit a regular scarf and join the edges any way you like. That's what I did and it looks just fine! And it does not have to have a half twist, either. You can get the same result when you double the scarf around your neck!"

"Apparently this is an older pattern with no tutorials or links. I was fortunate to locate the yarn on eBay. Now, however, Im having a most difficult time interpreting and following the instructions. Does turn mean wrap and turn as in knitting short rows? Is this the stitch that is then slipped (Sl 1)? What stitch is the last worked stitch on which the marker is placed? How are the remaining stitches transferred to the spare needle? Unless I use a circular needle throughout, I would have to move them in 2 steps - from left needle to a spare needle (on the right) and then back to the spare needle on the left. Thank you for your help."

I am in love with this elf hat! If I was the type to send Christmas cards, I would totally make these for my family to wear for the picture! I still might make them for my family, since they are so cute! If you do not like the red and white, you could trade the red for green and still be christmas-y!

I just love this elf hat. It's so festive a really clever idea! I think I will give it a go this Christmas with a green mix in it as well, depending on how it goes I might end up making one for my partner and our dog as well! Thank you for the idea and the pattern it's very much appreciated )
