By: Lion Brand Design Team

Grandmas Favorite Garter Stitch Hat

Do you want to know why everyone loves Grandma's Favorite Garter Stitch Hat? It's because it's so easy! Who would have thought that the simplest stitch in knitting could create something so pretty? You don't need to be a knitting master to create something gorgeous. In fact, you can just barely be beginning knitting to make this attractive hat. Just set aside a couple of hours out of your day to sit back, relax and mindlessly work on this knit hat pattern, and the next thing you know, you have grandma's favorite hat in your wardrobe.

Beginner

Knitting Needle Size9 or 5.5 mm

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Gauge1 stitches, 2 rows, 3 inches. stockinette stitch

Materials:

  • 480-202 Lion Brand Nature's Choice Organic Cotton Yarn: Berry Jam 2 Balls
  • Lion Brand Knitting Needles- Size 9 [5.5 mm]

Gauge: 15 stitches = 4 in. (10 cm) in Garter stitch (knit every row). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

HELP!! if knit pattern as is, the cuff won't match the top when you turn it up, will it? should be NO STAR rating!

large eye blunt needle is used to run the yarn through to gather the top, sew the seam and weave in ends. Hope this helps.

I trying and it is the same stitch from beginning end. so how does it look the same when you turn the cuff up? it will be garter on top and toc knit on turned up cuff.. HELP

what are the (6) large eye blunt end needles used for

I think it would be easier to run the yarn through the last row without casting off and gather from there. I'll try it both ways and see which I like better.
