This is a great and easy to make hat. Another pattern where the choice of yarn matters. Garter stitch always works well with variegated yarn. The colors don't seem to pool. I always feel you can never have too many hats. I make them, keep some of them, and give others to friends and charity. I always seem to have to keep busy. Thanks for helping me do that.

I want to make this has for my first hat. But can I use this same pattern for the stockinette (kit one row purl one row) as well? I'm new to knitting. Thanks

You can use stockinette stitch, however keep in mind that the stockinette stitch will curl and you may lose some of the 'stretch" to the hat. Hope this helps someone, Happy knitting.

This is brilliant, I was given a whole case of this yarn and I've been struggling to use it all up. I will make my own pompoms and donate many hats to the local shelter.
