What a beautiful vintage knitting pattern! Size 5 is a small needle for an afghan, but it's worth it to have a handmade classic like this.

This is a lovely afghan pattern that requires some work of making 10 patterned strips, seaming them together, then making 6 single crochet rounds all around as a border. That said, if you made it you could update the colors to something like earth tones, or go bold with pink and black or white and black.
