  • RED HEART® Anne Geddes™: 1 ball of 100 Lily A and 2(2,3) balls of 301 Teddy B
  • Susan Bates® Knitting Needles: 3.75 mm [US 5]
  • Stitch marker
  • Yarn needle
  • Sewing needle and matching thread
  • 17mm snap (1 set)

 

 

Gauge: 22 sts = 4” (10 cm); 46 rows = 4” (10 cm) in Garter Stitch

 

 

Measurements:

  • Finished Sweater Size: 15 (20,22)” [38 (51,56) cm] chest x 8 (10,11)” [20.5(25.5,28) cm] long
  • Sweater directions are written for size 0-3 months with changes for sizes 6-9 months and 12 months in parentheses.
  • Finished Hat Size: 17 (19)” [43(48.5) cm] head circumference
  • Hat directions are written for size Small/Medium (Baby’s) with changes for size Medium/Large (Toddler’s) in parentheses.

 

 

Instructions:

 

Special Stitches
Increase – Lift strand between needles to left-hand needle and knit strand through the back loop, twisting the stitch to prevent a hole in the fabric.
SSK = Slip, Slip, Knit – Slip next 2 stitches, knitwise, to right needle, insert point of left needle through the front of stitches, knit these stitches together through the back loop (1 stitch decrease).

 


SWEATER

Back
With A, cast on 40 (54, 59) sts.
Row 1: Knit across.
Row 2 (Right side): Knit across.
Rows 3-6 (8, 8): Knit across.
Row 7 (9, 9): Increase 3 (3, 4) sts evenly across, cut A: 43 (57,63) sts.
Row 8 (10,10): With B, knit across. Repeat Row 8 (10,10) for pattern until Back measures approximately 7½ (9¼, 10¼)” [19 (23.5, 26) cm] from cast on edge, ending by working a wrong side row.

 

Neck Edge
Row 1 (Right side): Knit (10, 14, 15), drop B, with A, Knit 23 (29, 33), with a second ball of B, knit across.
Rows 2-6 (8, 8): Knit across in established color pattern. Bind off all sts in established color pattern.

 

Left Front
With A, cast on 32 (40, 44) sts.
Row 1: Knit across.
Row 2 (Right side): Knit across.
Rows 3-6 (8, 8): Knit across.
Row 7 (9, 9): Increase 3 (3, 4) sts evenly across, cut A: 35 (43, 48) sts.
Row 8 (10, 10): With B, knit across to last 5 (6, 6) sts, drop B, with A, knit across.
Row 9 (11, 11): With A, K5 (6, 6), drop A, with B, knit across. Repeat Rows 8 (10,10) and 9 (11,11) until Left Front measures approximately 4¼ (5¼, 5¾)” [11 (13.5,14.5) cm] from cast on edge, ending by working Row 9 (11,11).

 

Neck Shaping
Row 1 (Right side): With B, knit across to last 8 (9, 9) sts, SSK, K1, drop B, with A, knit across: 34 (42, 47) sts.
Row 2: With A, K5 (6, 6), drop A, with B, knit across. Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until 15 (19, 21) sts remain, ending by working Row 2. Work even until Left Front measures the same as Back. Bind off all sts in established color pattern, leaving a long end for sewing.

 

Right Front
With A, cast on 32 (40, 44) sts.
Row 1: Knit across.
Row 2 (Right side): Knit across.
Rows 3-6 (8, 8): Knit across.
Row 7 (9, 9): Increase 3 (3,4) sts evenly across: 35 (43, 48) sts.
Row 8 (10, 10): K5 (6,6) sts, drop A, with B, knit across.
Row 9 (11, 11): With B, knit across to last 5 (6, 6) sts, drop B, with A, knit across. Repeat Rows 8 (10,10) and 9 (11,11) until Right Front measures approximately 4¼ (5¼, 5¾)” [11 (13.5, 14.5) cm] from cast on edge, ending by working Row 9 (11,11).

 

Neck Shaping
Row 1 (Right side): With A, K5 (6, 6), drop A, with B, K1, K2 tog, knit across: 34 (42, 47) sts.
Row 2: With B, knit across to last 5 (6, 6) sts, drop B, with A, knit across. Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until 15 (19, 21) sts remain, ending by working Row 2. Work even until Right Front measures the same as Back. Bind off all sts in established color pattern, leaving a long end for sewing.

 

Sleeves (Make 2)
With A, cast on 30 (34, 38) sts.
Row 1: Knit across.
Row 2 (Right side): Knit across.
Rows 3-6 (8, 8): Knit across.
Row 7 (9, 9): Increase 2 sts evenly across, cut A: 32(36,40) sts.
Row 8 (10, 10): With B, work increase, knit across to last st, work increase, K1: 34 (38, 42) sts.
Rows 9 (11, 11)-13: Knit across. Repeat Rows 8 (10,10)-13, 5 (8, 9) times: 44 (54, 60) sts. Work even until piece measures approximately 4½ (5¼, 5¾)” [11.5 (13.5,14.5) cm] from cast on edge. Bind off all sts in knit, leaving a long end for sewing.

 

Ties (Make 2)
With A, cast on 80 (85, 88) sts.
Row 1 (Right side): Knit across.
Rows 2 and 3: Knit across. Bind off all sts in knit.

 

Finishing
Thread yarn needle with Left Front long end. With right sides of Left Front and Back together, sew shoulder seam. Repeat for Right Front. Place marker along Left Front and Back, along ends of rows 4½ (5¼, 5¾)” [11.5 (13.5,14.5) cm] from shoulder seam. Thread yarn needle with Sleeve long end. With right sides of Sleeve and body together, center Sleeve between the markers and sew in Sleeve. Repeat for Right Front and Back, sewing in opposite Sleeve. Thread yarn needle with a length of B. With right sides together, sew Sleeve seams and side seams. Thread yarn needle with a length of A. With right sides together, and using photo as a guide, sew Ties to Left and Right Front. Thread sewing needle with matching thread. Sew one side of snap to right side of Left Front at Row 1 of Neck Shaping. Sew opposite side of snap to wrong side of Right Front, carefully aligning the two.

 


HAT

With A, cast on 83 (91) sts.
Row 1: Knit across.
Row 2 (Right side): Knit across.
Rows 3-8: Knit across.
Row 9: Increase 7 (9) sts evenly across, cut A: 90 (100) sts.
Row 10: With B, knit across. Repeat Row 10 for pattern until Hat measures approximately 4½ (5)” [11.5 (12.5) cm] from cast on edge, ending by working a wrong side row.

 

Crown Shaping
Row 1 (Right side): K7, (K2tog, K8) across to last 3 sts, K2 tog, K1: 81 (90) sts.
Row 2 AND ALL WRONG SIDE ROWS: Knit across.
Row 3: K6, (K2tog, K7) across to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1: 72(81) sts.
Row 5: K5, (K2tog, K6) across to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1: 63(72) sts.
Row 7: K4, (K2tog, K5) across to last 3 sts,K2tog, K1: 54(63) sts.
Row 9: K3, (K2tog, K4) across to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1: 45(54) sts.
Row 11: K2, (K2tog, K3) across to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1: 36(45) sts.
Row 13: K1, (K2tog, K2) across to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1: 27(36) sts.

Size Medium/Large Only Row 17: (K2tog, K1) across to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1: 18 sts.
All Sizes Row 17(19): K2 tog across: 9 sts. Cut yarn leaving a 16” [40.5 cm] end. Thread yarn needle with end and weave through remaining stitches. Draw up firm; fasten securely. With right sides of Hat together and matching stitches, sew seam.

 

Ears (Make 2)
With B, cast on 10 sts.
Row 1 (Right side): Knit across.
Rows 2-4: Knit across.
Row 5: K1, work increase, knit across to last st, work increase, K1: 12 sts.
Row 6: Knit across.
Rows 7-10: Repeat Rows 5 and 6: 16 sts.
Rows 11-14: Knit across.
Row 15: K1, K2tog tbl, knit across to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1: 14 sts.
Rows 16-19: Repeat Row 15: 6 sts. Bind off all sts in knit, leaving a long end for sewing.

 

Inner Ear (Make 2)
With A, cast on 6 sts.
Row 1 (Right side): Knit across.
Rows 2-4: Knit across.
Row 5: K1, work increase, knit across to last st, work increase, K1: 8 sts.
Row 6: Knit across.
Rows 7 and 8: Repeat Rows 5 and 6: 10 sts.
Row 9: K1, K2tog tbl, knit across to last 3 sts,
K2tog, K1: 8 sts. Rows 10 and 11: Repeat Row 9: 4 sts. Bind off all sts in knit, leaving a long end for sewing.

 

Finishing
Thread yarn needle with Inner Ear long end. With wrong side of Inner Ear together with right side of Ear, sew Inner Ear to Ear. Repeat for second Ear. Thread yarn needle with Ear long end. Using photo as a guide, sew Ear to Crown Shaping of Hat.
