How to Knit a Woven Plaid Stitch

Instructions for a Woven Plaid Stitch

  1. Start with a multiple of 5 stitches plus two (in this example we are using a multiple of 10 stitches plus 2) , and on the wrong side of your knitting.

  2. Slip one stitch with the yarn in back and one with the yarn in front.

  3. Repeat this process two more times, so you should have worked through 5 stitches.

  4. Purl the next 5 stitches, and knit the final stitch.

Tip: You will always knit the first and last stitch for this plaid woven stitch.

  5. Pull your circular needle through your work and work on the other send of your wrong side without turning your work around.

  6. Knit the first stitch in your next row, and switch to the other color of your yarn.

  7. Purl the first 5 stitches. Hold your working yarn at the back and slip the next 5 stitches. End the row with a knit stitch, and turn your work.

  8. Start with color A (the opposite color of what you just created stitches with). Knit your first stitch, and then knit the next 5.

  9. Knit your first stitch, and then knit the next 5. Then, slip the next stitch with your yarn in back and the following stitch with your yarn in front. Repeat this process until you get to your final stitch, which you seal off with a knit stitch.

  10. Slip your needle through the work, and knit your first stitch.

  11. Do your first 5 slips over the blue and then knit your next 5 stitches across your color B, ending with a knit stitch.

  12. Flip your yarn to the wrong side and repeat this process until you have finished your knit masterpiece!

This is such an interesting pattern! I'm not sure which colors I'd choose. Maybe green and grey?
