In this video tutorial, Heidi Gustad teaches you how to knit a fun and practical scrubbie washcloth. This knit washcloth pattern is very beginner-friendly, so anyone can give it a try! Learn how to knit with two strands of yarn at once to create this simply scrubbie pattern. By using both a cotton and scrubby yarn, you get the benefits of both - the softness and density of the cotton and the grit of the scrubby. This knit washcloth pattern is ideal if you want to exfoliate in the shower or use it as a rag that has a little bit of grit to it.

Knitting Needle Size8 or 5 mm

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Materials List

  • US 8 needles
  • Red Heart Scrubby yarn
  • Cotton yarn (such as Lily Sugar 'n Cream or I Love This Cotton!)

Yarn is held double while knitting this pattern.  Choose one of the options below:
Option 1:  Knit with two strands of scrubby yarn. (for this option the cotton yarn is not needed)
Option 2:  Knit with one strand of scrubby yarn and one strand of cotton yarn

Cast on 15 stitches.
Knit in garter stitch (knit every row) until piece measures 3″ from the beginning (about 22 rows).
Bind off loosely (binding off loosely helps you slip the scrubby yarn off the needle, and makes for a stretchier edge on your scrubbie too).
To finish, weave in any yarn ends as necessary.
