This sweater is definitely one that would look MUCH better on a man than on these women, as it does NOTHING for the female figure! It would DEFINITELY enhance a man's build, however, so it should have the name changed from the "Joanie" sweater to perhaps the "Joey" sweater, for this very reason. Funny how some women think they can put on something chunky and masculine and expect it to make them look good! Ladies, leave the "man styles" alone if you want to look your best! You have stolen enough of our looks away from us to the point that we have almost nothing left to turn to! Butch ladies are as big of a turn off to most of us straight guys as effeminate men are to most straight females! I suppose this just proves what the Bible says in Genesis where God said that a woman's desire will always be for that of her husband, meaning her carnal nature will be to control everything, even those things that are given of God for man to control. In this case, women want to wear men's clothing as various forms of "declaring control and power" through what they wear. So sad!

Doodledaddy, I agree that women look nicer in feminine designs. That being said, I completely disagree with your tagging the Joanie Sweater as masculine. It is a bit bulky but it has a nice shape. The ruffled neckline and the button detail on the side would definitely not suit a manly man. I don't see this as a masculine design at all.

What a ignorant, sexist, misognynistic thing to write. You are a bible thumping jerk who misinterprets Genesis to back up your narrow minded stupidity.

Doodledaddy, how nice that you knit! Good for you! As for females being feminine -- in the good old days men were quite short. So, in order for them to be taller, they wore high heels. Men also were adorned quite heavily with lace and ruffles, as well as with elaborate wigs. WWII the men went to war - and the women had to get jobs to support themselves and family. Ta dahhhh -- Rosie, the Riveter! She couldn't dress in those dresses and nylons and feminine attire - women had to dress in dungarees and heavy shoes, etc. So, if a man wants to look masculine (and clothing does NOT denote masculine anymore than it denotes feminine) then by all means wear whatever you choose to wear. A 'frilly' man who treats his wife with love and respect is a lot more a real man than the macho 'widow-maker t-shirt' buffoon who hits his wife. I enjoy this designer's items but just the thought of wearing a heavy sweater has me sweating with discomfort. In the Bible -- men wore robes -- didn't seem to make them more masculine, nor did it make them feminine to have long flowing hair and back to masculine to have facial hair - in nose and ears, as well. Your use of the bible doesn't make you more knowledgable about women, btw. Certainly, not about men! Men in the bible used women as chattel. Put that in your pipe. WOMEN had to fight hard and long for their freedom and for the right to vote! Men still make more money than women who do the same job.

which part looks like it should be for a man? the ruffled neckline or the soft braiding on the slightly belled sleeves? sheesh! what a jerk.

Doodledaddy, you have unlimited styles left to choose from. There are dresses, skirts, leggings, bras, panties, pantyhose, etc. Go, and complain no more.

Thank you so much for the instructions for casting on for the toe up socks. Never have seen this done. Made tons of socks when I was a teenager but that was 60 years ago. Haven't knitted for years but now retired and started knitting and crocheting one again. Thank you Thank you Thank you

Aww, I thought this was going to be a pattern for a man's sweater, since "Mad Men" was part of the name of it. What a shame! We men need a LOT more patterns for us guys who knit!

Right click with your mouse the above link and click open in new window.

I'm inexperienced at using web sites. when I tried clicking on the pattern to see more I continued to get same screen. Also unclear how I access pattern once saved. barb h
