This sweater is such a classic 40s style and was usually made out of horribly itchy yarn, I always wondered how anyone could wear it. The style is beautiful though and I can imagine it knit in a soft merino or alpaca blend. It looks to be a DK yarn with the size 5 needles and 6 stitches to the inch. Be sure to swatch to get the right gauge.
