Make this knit fingerless gloves pattern in your favorite colors for yourself, or knit up a pair for a friend. Whoever these gloves are for, everyone will love this free knitting pattern and the cozy knit fingerless gloves it creates.

NotesYou will need two colors of DK yarn for this pattern. Choose which color will be yarn A and which will be yarn B, then proceed to follow the pattern.

Intermediate

Knitting Needle Size5 or 3.75 mm, Double-Pointed Knitting Needles (DPNs)

Yarn Weight(3) Light/DK (21-24 stitches to 4 inches)

Finished Size 5.25” [13 cm] long and 6.5” [16 cm] in circumference

Sleek Striped Fingerless Gloves Knitting Pattern

Cuff

  1. With yarn A, cast on 40 sts divided evenly on 4 double-pointed needles (10 sts on each needle); join to work in the round, being careful stitches are not twisted. Place stitch marker at beginning of round, moving marker with each round.

  2. Rounds 1-4: Knit.

Begin the Stripe Pattern

  1. Rounds 5-6: With B knit. Do not cut A, carry up side of work.

  2. Rounds 7-8: With A knit. Do not cut B, carry up side of work.

  3. Rounds 9-20: Repeat Rounds 5-8. 

  4. Next Round: With B, k1, KFB, knit to last 2 sts, KFB, k1 — 42 sts.

  5. Round 2: Knit.

Thumb Gusset

  1. Round 1: With A, k1, KFB, knit to last 2 stitches, KFB, k1 — 44 sts.

  2. Round 2: Knit.

  3. Round 3: With B, k1, KFB, knit to last 2 stitches, KFB, k1 — 46 sts.

  4. Round 4: Knit. Repeats Rounds 1-4 until 50 sts.

  5. Next Round: With A, knit. 

  6. Next Round: Place 5 sts from beginning of Round and 5 sts from end of Round on stitch holder (10 sts). These are the Thumb sts. Cut A.

  7. Next Rounds: Continue in stripe pattern, knit 2 Rounds B, 2 Rounds A, over remaining 40 sts, carrying yarn not in use up the side of work until you have a total of 10 B stripes.  

Top of Gloves (rolled edge)

  1. Rounds 1-4: With A, knit. Bind off all sts on last Round.

Thumb

  1. Round 1: Working in the round with B, place the 10 sts from the stitch holder on 2 needles (5 sts on each needle), pick up and knit 5 sts from Thumb opening and place on 3rd needle) — 15 sts. 

  2. Round 2: Knit.

  3. Rounds 3-4: With A, knit.

  4. Rounds 5-6: With B, knit. 

  5. Rounds 7-8: With A, knit.

  6. Round 9: With B, knit and bind off all sts.

Finishing

  1. Weave in ends.
