Knitting Needle Size13 or 9 mm

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Gauge11 stitches, 17 rows, 4 inches. stockinette stitch


  • RED HEART® Super Saver® (Art. E300 available in solid color 7 oz (198 g), 364 yd (333 m); multicolor, heather and print 5 oz (141 g), 244 yd (223 m), flecks 5 oz (141 g), 260 yds (238 m) skeins): 2 skeins 3939 Blacklight
  • Susan Bates® knitting needles: 9mm [US 13]
  • Yarn needle

GAUGE: 11 sts = 4” (10 cm); 17 rows = 4” (10 cm) in Slip Stitch pattern. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.

K = knit
mm = millimeters
P = purl
st(s) = stitch (es)
wyib = with yarn in back
* = repeat whatever follows the * as indicated

Cowl measures 11” (28 cm) wide and 32” (81 cm) long before seaming.

Slip Stitch Pattern (multiple of 2 sts + 1)
Row 1 (wrong side): K1, purl to last st, K1.
Row 2: K1, *slip 1 st wyib, K1; repeat from * to end of row.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for pattern.

Holding two strands of yarn together, loosely cast on 31 sts. Work Slip Stitch Pattern until piece measures 32” (81 cm), ending with Row 1. Bind off all sts loosely.

With yarn needle, sew cast on edge to bind off edge. Weave in all loose ends.
