Jingle Bells Tree Skirt

If you've ever wondered how to make a tree skirt that will stand the test of time, look no further than this timeless Christmas knit. The Jingle Bells Tree Skirt is a simple pattern with a few holiday embellishments. Perfect for the beginning knitter, the pattern is made up of a series of solid-color panels that are sewn together after blocking. Each panel is adorned with a tiny bell at the point for a fun, Christmas treat.

Beginner

Knitting Needle Size7 or 4.5 mm

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Materials:

  • Patons Decor (100 g/3.5 oz; 208yds) or Patons Canadiana (100 g/3.5 oz; 204 yards)
    Main color (MC) (green) 3 balls
    Contrast A (red) 3 balls
    Contrast B (gold) 3 balls
    Contrast C(aran) 3 balls
  • Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension
  • 12 large jingle bells
  • Separating zipper

 

GAUGE: 20 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

 

Approx 50 ins [127 cm] diameter

 

ABBREVIATIONS
Inc = Increase(ing)
K = knit
k2tog = Knit next 2 stitches together.
M1 = Make 1 stitch by picking up horizontal loop lying before next stitch and knitting into back of loop.
st(s) = stitch(es)



INSTRUCTIONS

PANEL (make 3 in each color).

Jingle Bells Tree Skirt
 

Cast on 3 sts.
1st row: K1. M1. K1. M1. K1.
2nd and alt rows: Purl.
3rd row: K1. M1. K3. M1. K1.
5th row: K1. M1. K5. M1. K1.
Cont in this manner, inc 2 sts on every alt row until there are 47 sts.
Work 5 rows even in stocking st, ending with RS facing for next row.
Next row: K1. Sl1K. K1. psso. Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1.
Rep these 6 rows until there are 7 sts.
Work 5 rows even. Cast off.
 

FINISHING

Block each panel to measurements using schematic as a guide. Sew seams alternating colors as illustrated, leaving centre back seam open. Sew zipper in open seam.
Attach one jingle bell to end of each panel.

I haven't knit this pattern yet but usually SL1K means to slip one stitch knit-wise. It's not S11K

The 8th row of the instructions say "Next row K1. Sl1K. K1. psso. Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1." What is meant by "S11K"? Is that a typo?
