  • Patons® Classic Wool DK Superwash™ (50 g/1.75 oz; 114 m/125 yds) Contrast A Apple Green (12223) 1 (2, 2, 2, 3) ball(s)
  • Sizes U.S. 5 (3.75 mm) and U.S. 6 (4 mm) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension
  • Separating zipper

 

 

Gauge/Tension: 22 sts and 28 rows = 4" [10 cm] in stocking st with larger needles

With smaller needles and A, cast on 70 (74-78-82-86) sts. Break A. Join MC.
1st row: With MC, *K2. P2. Rep from * to last 2 sts. K2.
2nd row: *P2. K2. Rep from * to last 2 sts. P2. Rep last 2 rows (K2. P2) ribbing for 2" [5 cm], ending on a 2nd row.

Change to larger needles and proceed in stocking st until work from beg measures 4 (5 1/2-6-6 1/2-7 1/2)" [10 (14-15-16.5-19) cm], ending on a WS row. Work 28 rows of Stripe Pat. Break A. With MC only, cont in stocking st until work from beg measures 10 1/4(11 1/2-12-12 1/2-13 1/2)" [26 (29-30.5-32-34.5) cm], ending on a purl row.

Shape armholes: Cast off 3 (4-4-5-5) sts beg next 2 rows. 64 (66-70-72-76) sts.
1st row: (RS). K2. K2tog. Knit to last 4 sts. ssk. K2.
2nd row: Purl. Rep last 2 rows 4 times more. 54 (56-60-62-66) sts. Cont even until armhole measures 5 (5-5 1/2-6-6 1/2)" [12.5 (12.5-14-15-16.5) cm], ending on a purl row.
Shape shoulders: Cast off 6 (6-7-7-8) sts beg next 2 rows, then 6 (7-7-8-8) sts beg next 2 rows. Cast off rem 30 (30-32-32-34) sts.

 

LEFT FRONT
**With smaller needles and A, cast on 34 (38-38-42-42) sts. Break A. Join MC. With MC, work in (K2. P2) ribbing as given for Back for 2" [5 cm], ending on a 2nd row.

Change to larger needles and proceed in stocking st until work from beg measures 4 (5 1/2-6-6 1/2-7 1/2)" [10 (14-15-16.5-19) cm], ending on a WS row.** Work 28 rows of Stripe Pat. Break A. With MC only, cont in stocking st until work from beg measures 10 1/4(11 1/2-12-12 1/2-13 1/2)" [26 (29-30.5-32-34.5) cm], ending on a purl row.

Shape armhole: 1st row: (RS). Cast off 3 (4-4-5-5) sts. Knit to end of row. 31 (34-34-37-37) sts rem.

Work from ** to ** as given for Left Front. Work 28 rows of Stripe Pat. Break A. With MC only, cont in stocking st until work from beg measures 4 (5 1/2-6-6 1/2-7 1/2)" [10 (14- 15-16.5-19) cm], ending on a knit row.

Shape armhole: 1st row: (WS). Cast off 3 (4-4-5-5) sts. Purl to end of row. 31 (34-34-37-37) sts rem.
2nd row: Knit to last 4 sts. ssk. K2.

Change to larger needles and proceed in stocking st, inc 1 st each end of needle on 7th and following 0 (0-0-0-20th) row. Cont even until work from beg measures 4 (5-5-6-7)" [10 (12.5-12.5-15-18) cm], ending on a purl row. Work 28 rows of Stripe Pat, AT THE SAME TIME, inc 1 st at each end of needle on next and every following 18th (20th-20th-26th-20th) row from previous increase 1 (1-1-1-2) time(s) more. 44 (48-52-56-62) sts.

Note: Break A when Stripe Pat is complete and proceed with MC only.

With MC only, cont even until Sleeve measures 10 1/2 (11 1/2-12 1/2-13 1/2-15)" [26.5 (29-32-38) cm], ending on a purl row.
Shape top: Cast off 3 (3-4-4-5) sts beg next 2 rows. 38 (42-44-48-52) sts.
1st row: (RS). K2. K2tog. Knit to last 4 sts. ssk. K2.
2nd row: Purl. Rep last 2 rows 6 (5-10-13-15) times more. 20 (30-22-20-20) sts.
1st row: (RS). K2. K2tog. Knit to last 4 sts. ssk. K2.
2nd row: P2. P2togtbl. Purl to last 2 sts. P2tog. P2. Rep last 2 rows 2 (4-2-1-1) time(s) more. 8 (10-12-12-12) sts rem.
Cast off.

 

FINISHING
Pin garment pieces to measurements. Cover with a damp cloth, leaving cloth to dry.
Sew shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams.
Zipper edging: With RS facing, A and smaller needles, pick up and knit 62 (64-66-72-80) sts evenly up Right Front edge between cast on edge and neck edge.
Knit 2 rows. Cast off knitwise (WS).
Rep for Left Front edge, picking up sts between neck edge and cast on edge.

 

HOOD
With smaller needles and A, cast on 100 (110-120-120-126) sts. Knit 3 rows. Break A. Join MC.
With MC, knit 4 rows. Change to larger needles, and proceed in stocking st, dec 1 st each end of needle on next and every following alt row until there are 92 (100-110-110-116) sts. Cont even until work from beg measures 8 (8 1/2-9-9 1/2-10)" [20.5 (21.5-23-24-25.5) cm], ending on a purl row.
Cast off 5 (5-7-7-7) sts beg next 12 rows. Cast off rem 32 (40-26-26-32) sts.
Fold Hood in half and sew center back seam.
Sew shaped edge of Hood around neck edge, matching back seam of Hood with center back.

Sew zipper in position under edging.

Lovely knit, but the pattern needs to be proof read before publishing. I had to practically rewrite the 'right front' instructions. That said, looks good and easy to follow.

I'd love to get your rewritten version.

The sleeve hole measurements are unclear with this pattern. I ended up making them too small (

I ran into the same problem and have to do it over.
