Hat

Using 3.0 mm needles & col A CO 115 sts.
Work in 1/1 rib for 6 cm (2¼ in) [22 rows] but work final row as foll: 6 sts 1/1 rib, *inc 1, 13 sts 1/1 rib* rep from *to* 7 more times, then inc 1, 5 sts 1/1 rib.
Change to 4.0 mm needles & work on the 124 sts obtained as foll:
3 sts St st,
1 st Rev St st, 4 sts Cable, 1 st Rev St st,
*8 sts St st, 1 st Rev St st, 4 sts Cable, 1 st Rev St st*
rep from *to* 7 more times, then 3 sts St st.
When work measures 15 cm (6 in) [50 rows] total work next RS row as foll:
K3, p1, 4 sts Cable,
*p2tog, k6, p2tog, 4 sts Cable*
rep from *to* 7 more times, then p1, k3.
Work 3 rows on the rem 108 sts.
Next row (RS):
k3, p1, 4 sts Cable, *p2tog, k4, p2tog, 4 sts Cable* rep from *to* 7 more times, then p1, k3.
Work 3 rows on the rem 92 sts.
Next row (RS):
k3, p1, 4 sts Cable, *p2tog, k2, p2tog, 4 sts Cable* rep from *to* 7 more times, then p1, k3.
Work 3 rows on the rem 76 sts.
Next row (RS):
k3, p1, 4 sts Cable, *p2tog twice, 4 sts Cable* rep from *to* 7 more times, then p1, k3.

Finishing

Thread yarn through the rem 15 sts, pull tight & fasten off.
Sew the side seam, sewing the bottom 3 cm (1¼ in) on the RS to allow for turning up.
Secure & weave in all ends.
Using col B make a pompom, 6 cm (2½ in) diameter & fix to the top of the hat.
