My favorite free dress knitting patterns are those with a fun vintage twist. Not only does this Vintage Margarita Dress have an obvious retro touch, it actually is a real vintage pattern! Transport yourself back to the 60s with this knit dress that features intriguing red detailing along the neck and sleeves.

Can someone clarify the gauge? The posting says 23-26 stitches whereas the pattern says 22 sts for 4".

You will always rely on the gauge in the pattern, never rely on the notated gauge of a website that hosts the pattern. The gauge stated in the pattern is On Size 6 needles before smocking - 11 sts to 2 inches 7 rows to 1 inch, so 22 sts to 4" and 14 rows to 4".

Need some help with two issues - one is the gauge and the other is choosing a size. For gauge, the pattern says 22 st = 4" (dk, 3), the description here says 23-26 st (fine, 2). The question about size may relate to the gauge issue. The pattern finished measurements, using its stated gauge of 22 st, are much, much bigger than the body measurements. For example, size 16 bust is 38" vs. 45.5" finished and hips are 40" whereas at Cast On is 66" finished. Even size 10 finished measurements are bust 43.5" and at CO 64". Thanks for any guidance you can offer.

Talk about vintage! This looks like a sixties or very early seventies design. My sweet little aunt has a picture of herself from back then and she is wearing a dress very similar to this and has almost the exact same hairstyle. Sizing is perfect, but note that this is a very advanced pattern and not for beginners.

What MM s are the needles? thanks . I love the look of this dress. would love to knit it.

Hi Iceni, the needles used for this pattern are 3.75mm (size 5) and 4mm (size 6). Hope this helps! -Editors of AllFreeKnitting

I have said it so many times in comments , but I have a love for vintage inspired patterns. So, obviously I would fall in love with this genuine vintage dress. It is so pretty and I will definitely be making this. And I think it would look great in a short sleeved version or even sleeves like the 60's MOD dresses.

I've never thought of knitting a dress before, but this is the pattern I'd start with! Such a cute design, and it looks really cozy!

Vintage margarita dress pattern is gorgeous. I would add to the lentgh for myself. A midi or maxi version suits someone my age. It can be made in various types of yarn for an elegant or casual dress.

Do I dare make this with short sleeves? Could I just end the sleeves after 6 in or so?

Sure, why not?
