Funky Fall Wrap

Knitting Needle Size5 or 3.75 mm, 7 or 4.5 mm, Circular Knitting Needles

Yarn Weight(3) Light/DK (21-24 stitches to 4 inches)

Materials:

 

  • Yarn: Yummy by Fibra Natura (100% superwash merino wool; 370 yd/130g) color #41592 Tequila Sunrise, 9 skeins.
  • Needles: US Size 5 (3.75mm) 40” circular needles
  • US Size 7 (4.5mm) straight needles OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE


GAUGE
20 sts and 24 rows = 4” in St st with larger needles
SAVE TIME, CHECK YOUR GAUGE


ABBREVIATIONS
beg – beginning
Inc – increase
P – purl
patt – pattern
pwise – purlwise
rep – repeat
RS – right side
sl – slip
st(s) – stitches
St st – stockinette stitch
WS – wrong side


Fisherman Rib
(Worked over an even number of sts)
Row 1 (WS): Purl.
Row 2: * K1 into row below, P1; rep from * across.
Rep row 2 for patt st.


WRAP
With larger needles, cast on 115 sts.
Row 1 (WS): Sl 1 pwise, purl to end.
Row 2: Sl 1 pwise, knit to end. Work even in St st patt, slipping the first st of each row pwise, until piece measures 90” from beg, ending after a WS row. Bind off all sts loosely.


Left Side Ruffle
With smaller needles and RS facing, pick up and knit 516 sts evenly along left hand side of wrap.
Row 1 (WS): Purl.
Row 2: * K1 into row below, P1; rep from * to end.
Rows 3-8: Rep row 2.
Row 9 (Inc row): Work 12 sts in patt, * knit into the front, back, and front of next st, work 11 sts in patt; rep from * to end – 600 sts.
Rows 10-16: Work even in patt, incorporating new sts into patt st.
Row 17 (Inc row): Work 6 sts in patt, knit into the front, back, and front of next st, * work 13 sts in patt, knit into the front, back, and front of next st; rep from * 40 more times, work 5 sts in patt – 684 sts.
Rows 18 -24: Work even in patt, incorporating new sts into patt st.
Row 25 (Inc row): Work 12 sts in patt, * knit into the front, back, and front of next st, work 15 sts in patt; rep from * to end – 768 sts.
Rows 26-32: Work even in patt, incorporating new sts into patt st.
Row 33 (Inc row): Work 12 sts in patt, * knit into the front, back, and front of next st, work 17 sts in patt; rep from * to end – 852 sts.
Rows 34-40: Work even in patt, incorporating new sts into patt st.
Row 41 (Inc row): Work 12 sts in patt, * knit into the front, back, and front of next st, work even in patt for 19 sts; rep from * to end – 936 sts.
Rows 42-48: Work even in patt, incorporating new sts into patt st.
Bind off all sts loosely.


Right Side Ruffle
With smaller needles and RS facing, pick up and knit 516 sts evenly along right hand
side of wrap. Work as for left side ruffle.


FINISHING
Weave in ends

Is the yarn amount on this pattern right? over 3000 yards of yarn for a shawl? this seems like an awful lot of yarn for a single project, has anyone made it, did it actually take that much yarn?
