Grandma's Sunshine Scarf

This Grandma's Sunshine Scarf is both straightforward and cozy, and perfect with a sweater or simple tee. This simple knit scarf pattern gives you a lightweight, breezy, and delicate new piece of neckwear that nobody will believe you made on your own. The extra long tassels at the ends give the scarf a wintry feel, but the bright color is reminiscent daisies in bloom, so you can keep wearing it long after the last snowfall.
Knitting Needle Size9 or 5.5 mm
Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)
Gauge1 stitches, 2 rows, 3 inches. stockinette stitch
Materials:
- Patons® DenimyTM (3 oz/85 g; 144 yds/132 m) Lemon Curry Denim (96620) - 4 Balls
- Size U.S. 9 (5.5 mm) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge
Gauge: 16 sts and 22 rows = 4” [10 cm] in stocking st.
Measurements: Approx 7” x 80” [18 x 203 cm], excluding fringe.
Abbreviations
Approx = Approximately
Beg = Beginning
K = Knit
P = Purl
Rep = Repeat
St(s) = Stitch(es)
Tog = Together
Instructions:
Cast on 31 sts.
1st row: *K2. P2. Rep from * to last 3 sts. K2. P1.
Rep 1st row until work from beg measures 80” [203 cm].
Cast off.
Fringe: Cut lengths of yarn 16" [40.5 cm] long. Taking 3 strands tog, fold in half and knot into fringe evenly across Scarf ends. Trim fringe evenly.

This pattern in clean and clear, and it was easy to figure out the number of base stitches. It's so simple that it lends itself to other yarns and widths so is easy to make your own. I have made two of these so far and am working on a third one in sport weight (#2). I can hardly wait to see how it turns out!

I have come across this scarf a couple of times now on this website and everytime I see it, I love looking at it. It would be simple to knit and I love the soft and light look of it. Normally I would not wear yellow, but seeing it here makes me want to have just that color. It would be the perfect scarf for cool days, which we have a lot of here.

I usually wear all black during the winter, so a pretty and bright little scarf like this one would be fun to knit up to toss a little color into my dreary days!

This is a cute scarf. I like knitting patterns that I can put down and pick up without having to remember where I was in the pattern, can just start on it again after being interrupted (like that ever happens!). I like the fringe on the ends but would probably make it a little shorter.

Normally I am not a fan of ribbing but this yarn makes up for it. It is simple but so classy. I love Paton's yarn and this easy pattern will be a breeze to make in the car while traveling or at home watching TV. There maybe several of these in my future.

I really like this scarf because of its classic look. It's a great scarf to make for charity projects or for craft sales. I think if you changed the colors you could tailor it for Christmas, too. I'd like to make one in several colors so I could wear it with different outfits. Looks like it would work up quickly, too.

This is a simple scarf that can be worked in any number of yarns and is a good way for a beginner to learn how to make ribbing. The ribbing stitch will make the scarf extra cozy and will also give the scarf a nice texture. It might be grandma's scarf but it has plenty of life left in a modern wardrobe.
