The reason for this pattern is a wonderful one brings to mind some brilliantly gifted teachers I met along my way - and some highly gifted students I had the great good fortune to teach and challenge. I shall have to knit this hat - have to decide carefully on colours - as Christmas gifts for three extremely gifted young ladies who are still in touch with me -- thanks muchly for the pattern and the info behind it

This had works up so quickly on the large needles and bulky yarn. I chose to make it for my cousin and myself in honor of our mothers, who have both passed away. My Mom's name was Carolyn, and her Mom was Rose. It seemed only fitting that I make iit after it arrived in my e-mail just a day or two after Aunt Rose left us.....

I am trying to figure out how to do this hat on circular needles, and how many stitches to cast on. Very nice hat. I am not a very informed knitter on adjusting patterns. Do not like to sew up seams.

I think you could do this. Main thing, place a marker at the end of a row. You won't be turning your work so if on the wrong side it said to purl, you would knit. You will have to visualize how it should look when following directions, then when working a row that would be the wrong side of the piece you will have to do the opposite of what the instructions call for. I think I'd try a swatch of the pattern rows to make sure it will work.
