I've made this over and over for nephews and nieces. We are very school oriented people so I like to use their school colors and put a large stripe or two smaller stripes in the main part of the hat. They always appreciate the gift!

So this is a great hat to knit if you want to practice a few basic knitting stitches and techniques. Most of it is stockinette, and you have the option of using the provisional cast on (just one of several that every knitter should know), and the I-cord, another very handy technique.

This is one handy pattern to have on hand for quick knit gifts and prepping for winter. Easy enough to add stripes and use as a base for begining color work. Definitely one I'll use as a go to pattern.
