If you're looking for cozy layers for the colder months, this Long Cardigan Knitting Pattern will perfectly suit your needs. Gauge14 sts and 30 rows = 4" [10 cm] in garter st.

15 sts and 20 rows = 4" [10 cm] in stocking st.

Beg at neck edge, cast on 70 (74-78-78-84-90) sts. Do not join. Working back and forth across needle in rows, proceed as follows:

Knit 8 rows (garter st), noting first row is WS.

Proceed as follows:

Knit 14 rows (garter st).

Set up row: K16 (17-18-18-20-22). PM. K6. PM. K26 (28-30-30-32-34). PM. K6. PM. Knit to end of row.

    Sizes XS/S, M, L, 2/3XL and 4/5XL only:

    Next row: (WS). K34 (36-41-45-52). Place next 42 (44-52-56-66) sts on st holder. Cast on 6 (8-12-12-14) sts. K62 (66-76-82-94). Place next 42 (44-52-56-66) sts on st holder. Cast on 6 (8-12-12-14) sts. Knit to end of row.

    Size XL only:

SLEEVES

With set of 4 double-pointed needles, beg at center of underarm, pick up and knit 3 (4-5-6-6-7) sts. K42 (44-48-52-56-66) from st holder. Pick up and knit 3 (4-5-6-6-7) sts across rem of underarm cast on edge. Divide sts onto 3 needles. Join in rnd. PM on first st. 48 (52-58-64-68-80) sts.

Knit in rnds (stocking st) until Sleeve measures 7 (6½-6-5-4-3)" [18 (16.5-15-12.5-10-7.5) cm] from underarm.

Sizes XS/S and M only:

1st rnd: K2. ssk. Knit to last 4 sts. K2tog. K2. 46 (50) sts.
2nd to 6th rnds: Knit. Rep these 6 rnds 7 (8) times more. 32 (34) sts.

Sizes L, XL and 2/3XL only:

1st rnd: K2. ssk. Knit to last 4 sts. K2tog. K2. 56 (62-66) sts.
2nd rnd: Knit.

Rep these 4 rnds 11 (13-14) times more. 34 (36-38) sts.

Size 4/5XL only:

1st rnd: K2. ssk. Knit to last 4 sts. K2tog. K2. 78 sts.
3rd and 4th rnds: Knit.

Rep these 3 rnds 20 times more. 38 sts.

All sizes:

Work garter cuff as follows:

1st rnd: Purl.
2nd rnd: Knit.

Rep these 2 rnds until garter cuff measures 1" [2.5 cm]. Cast off knitwise.

FINISHING

Sew buttons onto Left Front to correspond with buttonholes.
