I have made a similar blanket and it works up quickly and looks great. I do like the instructions here where it has one solid color, sometimes doubling it for so many rows and then using it and an accent yarn for so many rows. Great contrast. It will be an unique afghan and you will get a lot of compliments. Thank you.

This is a perfect stash buster afghan pattern. What makes it work is that you use two strands together but one strand is always the same (in the photo, the dark red acrylic yarn). Having that constant color in the afghan unites the different kinds of yarn. I pinned this one to make!

I once made a shawl like this on a knitting cruise through the Meditteranean. We bought up all types of beautiful yarn then the knitting instructor taught us various stitches to use for the shawl. Quite a project! This is the same type of thing. What I like about it is that you come out with a different afghan each time, depending on what's in your stash.

I do not like knitting afghans as a rule - takes too long, but this has such a je ne sais quoi appeal to it - ethnic? I can't find the word, but I have to knit this one
