I love the idea, because the bags are accumulating in our house, too. But I dont really understand what kind of plastic bags I should use the very thin ones or the ones that are thicker? Please advice which ones did you use (I am from Europe, perhaps we have different types of plastic bags in our stores???). Thanks.

Environmentally friendly and a way to make use of these wretched bags that seem to pile up when I turn my back - just donated about 70 to the Thrift Store but shall start saving the ones I get to try this idea wish we were able to get colours other than white, yellow, and grey.

These are great bags and a nice way to recycle. I don't know about all of you, but the plastic bags in my pantry must be having litters. The pattern is simple, a step up from knitting a garter stitch scarf with the addition of the straps. They would make good beach totes too since they are washable and the sand would fall right through them.

When knitted up the plastic bags are stronger made into a different item.

I have made these for years! There very easy and fast to make. I have also made 4ft x 4ft squares for my husband when he works on our car, and I keep one in the trunk, keeps things from sliding around. I'm making a larger one now to use when we go camping as a patio mat. There much easier than the ground to kneal down on, and if they get beyond cleaning with soap and water, just toss em! They last forever, I only remember tossing 1 or 2 in the past 20 years!

I have NEVER seen a standard grocery bag "disintegrate" ever. Not too many stores spring for "compostable" bags, which are made out of plastics derived from corn fibers, most often. I think this is a great idea to reuse bags that are cluttering up our oceans, animals and land fills. If you have any questions about the bags falling apart, simply ask your grocery store what brand they use. Research is a fun way to spend time! :)

Many grocery bags disintegrate after a few months. I think this is a pretty risky idea.
