Contralto Shawl

By: Free Vintage Knitting

What makes the Contralto Shawl free knit pattern so great is that it is both stylish and functional! This shawl will keep you toasty, and its large pockets are big enough to store glasses or a wallet, and can also keep your hands warm. This shawl is perfect for wearing around the house or office; it's fashionable enough to wear out and about. The design of the pockets is simple enough for most knitters to grasp easily.

Do you know someone who is always complaining that their hands are cold? This shawl may be just what they need. The look of this shawl would be cute today, just as it was back in the day. The collar adds comfort and style, but it is the pockets that make it fun and useful.

Where do I order the yarn for this project?

This pattern is around 75 years old and the wool was discontinued about 60 or so years ago. The wool details are that it was a #6 super bulky yarn, 50% wool 50% nylon, 75 yards per 2 ounce skein with a gauge of 10 stitches equals 4" on 9 mm/US 13 needles.
