Subtle Sparkle Shawl

So, you already know how to knit a shawl, now all you need is the perfect knit shawl pattern for your first project. Well, look no further. The Subtle Sparkle Shawl is just the thing you need. This lacy knit shawl comes complete with a fringed finish that is sure to give you just the right amount of elegance and grace. This versatile knitted accessory can be used to dress up or dress down. However you choose to wear your Subtle Sparkle Shawl, you're sure to be the talk of the town.

Intermediate

Knitting Needle Size11 or 8 mm, Circular Knitting Needles

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Gauge1 stitches, 2 rows, 3 inches. stockinette stitch

Materials:

  • Simply Soft (170 g/6. oz;288 m/315 yds) CC Passion (0012) - 2 balls
  • Simply Soft Party (85 g/3. oz;150 m/164 yds) Main Color (MC) Black Sparkle (0007) - 4 balls
  • One circular U.S. size 11 (8mm) needle, 40" [51 cm] long
  • 2 stitch markers
  • Yarn needle

GAUGE: In Stockinette stitch, 11 sts and 18 rows = 4”/10cm.

Measurements: 63”/160cm long x 33”/84cm wide at longest point before fringe.

Abbreviations:
k2tog = Knit next 2 stitches together.
ssk = Slip next 2 stitches knitwise one at a time. Pass them back onto left-hand needle, then knit through back loops together.
st(s) = stitch(es)
yo = yarn over the needle (makes 1 extra stitch)


Instructions:
SHAWL
With one strand each of MC and CC held together, CO 5 sts.
 
St st Panel:
Row 1 (RS): K1, yo, k1, yo, pm (place marker), k1, pm, yo, k1, yo, k1--9 sts.
Row 2: K1, p to last st, k1.
Row 3: K1, yo, k to first marker, yo, sm (slip marker), k1, sm, yo, k to last st, yo, k1--13 sts.
Rep Rows 2 and 3 until there are 73 sts, ending with patt Row 3. Cut CC and attach 2nd strand of MC.
 
Garter st Strip:
Row 1: K1, p to last st, k1.
Row 2: K1, yo, k to first marker, yo, sm, k1, sm, yo, k to last st, yo, k1.
Row 3: K all sts.
Rep Rows 2 and 3 twice more, ending with Row 2. Cut 2nd strand MC a and attach strand of CC.
 
Mesh Panel
Row 1: K1, p to last st, k1.
Row 2: K1, yo, [k2tog, yo] to 1 st before first marker, k1, yo, sm, k1, sm, yo, k1, [yo, ssk] to last st, yo, k1--89 sts.
Rep Row 1 and 2 until there are 141 sts, ending with Row 2. Cut CC and attach 2nd strand of MC.
 
Garter st Strip:
Rep Garter st strip—153 sts on last row.
 
Moss Stitch Panel:
Row 1: K1, p to last st, k1.
Row 2: K1, yo, k1, [p1, k1] to first marker, yo, sm, k1, sm, yo, k1, [p1, k1] to last st, yo, k1--157 sts.
Row 3: [K1, p1] to first marker, sm, p1, sm, [p1, k1] to end.
Row 4:  K1, yo, p1, [k1, p1] to first marker, yo, sm, k1, sm, yo, p1, [k1, p1] to last st, yo, k1.
Row 5: K2, [p1, k1] to first marker, sm, p1, sm, [k1, p1] to last 2 sts, k2.
Repeat Rows 2-5 until there are 213 sts, ending with Row 3. 
BO.
 
FINISHING
Using yarn needle weave in all ends.
To create fringe, cut 5 strands of a single color 11”/28cm long each.  Attach and evenly space around edge of shawl, alternating colors.
