This is a great pattern for a beginner or for those times when you want an easy, fast project. Another great thing about this project is that it is easy to create different looks by using different weights of yarn and different numbers of stitches to achieve the look and scarf width you desire. One variation that would create a nice edge to the scarf would be to slip the last stitch of each row.

Not only is this an attractive scarf (and warm), but an easy pattern with which a knitter can learn a drop stitch with an attractiive and well-knit result. Brilliant!
