There are two versions of instructions one (short and descriptive) that just give the gist of what is done when. And one with rows and stitches spelled out. The short version of instructions like this can be and are quite confusing. Someone mentioned a video to go along with this tutorial, but I did not see one.

I like that the instructions have a video to show you how to do the short rows but otherwise there are a lot of questions regarding this pattern. You must have to add on more stitches to get the width in the middle but how? I am disappointed since it looks like a nice scarf to make. Maybe there was a mistake in translating.

This is the second of the "new" patterns I've looked at this morning which seem to have a gauge that is WAY off. Any thoughts on this ... as in "where is my thinking gone wonky" or "yeah, you're right, these gauges are off.

The gauge is way off and it frequently is on this site. I usually skip all free knitting's info-too many mistakes and got ot the pattern page, but in this case that won't help because the creator has not provided a gauge for the pattern.
