I have the strongest feeling that I have worn these mittens - at a time in my life when all my sweaters and mittens and hats were hand-knit by an elderly aunt and by my mother - mitts in the store were too thin to be warm. This pattern looks so familiar, although the mitts would have been knit on four needles - the socks and mitts Mother knit were amazing wish I could do as well, but the four needles and I never managed as well together. I have two pairs of socks in a drawer, ones she knit shortly before she died don't wear them, just keeping them to remember. She never needed a pattern, just knit. sigh

These vintage patterns make me feel like I'm keeping a part of our heritage alive. I like to give my kids one "Old fashioned" gift on the holidays. This may be the next item.

Would love to have this pattern scaled down for kids sizes. Anyone? I just love the texture pattern.

Hi mskemp 0285650, Because this is an actual vintage pattern, I'm not sure if there are notes to scale it down for children's sizes. We suggest posting this question to our Facebook community for more insight. Good luck! -Editors of AllFreeKnitting
