  • 1 pair of 4 mm (US 6) needles
  • Circular needle 3½ mm (US 4) (long)
  • Stitch holders - 1 x diameter 15 mm [½ in]

Tension: 22 sts and 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4 in] over st st using 4 mm (US 6) needles. 24 sts and 34 rows = 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4 in] over pattern using 4 mm (US 6) needles.

Special Instructions:
Selvedge st =
purl first st and knit last st tbl (through back of loop) on all rows.
Side inc = pick up horizontal loop before next stitch and knit into back of it.

Sl1 pwise wyab = slip 1 st purlwise with yarn at back.
Skp = slip 1, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over

Using needles 4 mm (U 6) cast on 117 (127: 127: 137: 137) sts work 4 rows in Pattern 1. Change to Pattern 2 and work straight until back meas 8 (5: 8: 5: 8) cm [3 (2: 3: 2: 3) in], ending with RS facing for next row.
Next row (RS): Dec 1 st at each end, within selvedge st.
Rep dec at foll 10th row 0 (0: 4: 0: 7) times, at foll 8 th row 9 (7: 4: 10: 0) times, at foll 6th 0 (4: 0: 0: 0) times row = 97 (103: 109: 115: 121) sts. Cont straight in pattern until back meas 37 cm [14½ in] ending with WS facing for next row.
Next row (WS): Knit, dec 13 sts evenly across row.
Next row: Knit.
Next row: Knit.
Beg with a k row and cont in st st, work straight until back meas 40 cm [15¾ in], ending with RS facing for next row.
Next row (RS): Inc 1 st at each end within selvedge sts.
Inc at foll 10th row twice = 90 (96: 102: 108: 114) sts. Cont straight in st st until back meas 51 (52: 52: 53: 53) cm [20 (20½: 20½: 21: 21) in], ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape armhole
Cast off 4 (5: 6: 6: 7) sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Next row (RS) dec: Selvedge st, k1, k2 tog, knit until 4 sts rem, skp, k1, 1 selvedge st. Rep dec at foll alt rows 4 times = 72 (76: 80: 86: 90) sts. Cont straight in st st until armhole meas 18 (18: 19: 19: 20) cm [7 (7: 7½: 7½: 8) in], ending with RS facing for next row.


Shape shoulders and neck
Next row (RS): Cast off 8[8:9:9:10] sts, patt until there are 20 (21: 21: 23: 239 sts on right needle, leaving rem sts on holder. Work each side separately. Cast off 3 sts at beg of next row (at neck edge). Cast off 8 (8: 8: 9: 9) sts at beg of next row. Cast off 2 sts at beg of next row. Cast off rem 7 (8: 8: 9: 9) sts. With RS facing, rejoin yarn to rem sts, leave centre 16 (18: 20: 22: 24) sts on holder, patt to end. Complete to match first side, reversing shapings.


Left Front
Using 4 mm (US 6) needles cast on 57 (62: 62: 67: 67) sts work 4 rows in Pattern 1. Change to Pattern 2 and cont until left front meas 8 (5: 8: 5: 8) cm [3 (2: 3: 2: 3 in], ending with RS facing for next row.
Next row (RS): Selvedge st, dec 1 st, patt to end. Rep dec at foll 10th row 0 (0: 4: 0: 7) times, at foll 8th row 9 (7: 4: 10: 0) times and at foll 6th row 0 (4: 0: 0: 0) times = 47 (50: 53: 56: 59) sts. Cont straight in pattern until left front meas 37 cm [14½ in], with WS facing for next row: Next row (WS): Knit and dec 4 sts evenly across row = 43 (46: 49: 52: 55) sts.
Next row: Knit.

Shaping v-neck (WS): cast off 2 sts at front edge, purl to end = 41 (44: 47: 50: 53) sts.
Beg with a k row and cont in st st at the same time beg v-neck dec as follows:
Next row (RS) dec: Knit to last 3 sts, skp, 1 selvedge st.
Rep v-neck dec every 6th row 11 (12:13: 14: 15) times more. Cont in st st and at the same time work side incs in the same way as back. When left front matches back, work armhole shaping in the same way as back. Cont straight until left front matches back to beg of shoulder shaping, ending with RS facing for next row.


Shape shoulder
Cast off 8 (8: 9: 9: 10) sts at beg of row. Work 1 row. Cast off 8 (8: 8: 9: 9) sts at beg of row. Work 1 row. Cast off rem 7 (8: 8: 9: 9) sts.


Right Front
Work as given for left front, reversing shapings (work side incs at end of k rows) and work v-neck decs as follows: 1 selvedge st, k2tog. Sleeves
Using 4 mm (US 6) needles cast on 77 (87: 87: 97: 97) sts work 4 rows in Pattern 1. Change to Pattern 2, cont in pattern until sleeve meas 12 cm [4¾ in], ending with WS facing for next row. Next row (WS): Knit and dec 17 (23: 19: 25: 21) sts evenly across row.
Next row: Knit.
Next row: Knit.
Beg with a k row, cont in st st. Work straight until sleeve meas 14 cm [5½ in], ending with RS facing for next row.
Next row (RS): Inc 1 st at each end = 62 (66: 70: 74: 78) sts.
Cont straight in st st until sleeve meas 17 cm [6¾ in], ending with RS facing for next row.


Shape sleeve top
Cast off 4 (5: 6: 6: 7) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Nex row (RS) dec: 1 selvedge st, k1, k2 tog, knit to last 4 sts, skp, k1, 1 selvedge st.
Rep dec at foll alt rows 16 (17: 18: 16: 17) times.
Cast off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows 1 (1: 1: 3: 3) times.
Cast off rem 16 sts from RS.


Making Up
Join shoulders.
Neck and front band
With right side facing, using circular needle (work back and forth) and starting at right front edge pick up and knit 87 (87: 87: 87: 87) sts up right front edge, 69 (71:75: 77: 79) sts up right v-neck, 30 (32: 34: 36: 38) sts (incl sts on holder) from back, 69 (71: 75: 77: 79) sts down left v-neck, 87 (87: 87: 87: 87) sts down left front edge = 342 (348: 358: 364: 370) sts. Work 3 rows in garter st at the same time make a button loop at last row as follows: Knit to 37 cm [14½ in] from cast on edge at right front, cast on 6 new sts for loop, k to end of row.
Next row (RS): Cast off.
Insert sleeves. Sew sleeve and side seams within 1 selvedge st. Attach button. Block out the garment to correct measurements, cover with a damp cloth and let dry.
