Reversible Cable and Lace Afghan

Reversible Cable and Lace Afghan

"Usually knitted creations have a right side, but this afghan has cables on one side and lace on the other. This is a practical afghan because it is soft and warm and looks great on both sides. The example is made with Lion Brand Homespun yarn. Instructions are included for five different sizes."

This afghan is beautiful! I love the combination of cables on one side and lace on the other. I have looked at several different cabled patterns, but I have yet to make one. I think I am hesitant because it seems more difficult than regular knitting. Does anyone have any suggestions for overcoming this hesitation? I would love to make this afghan!

I am making this Afghan and it is lovely, BUT although my gauge is exact for the size small, and I bought a little more yarn than the pattern requires for that size, I measured what I had completed so far when I finished my first skein, and although the width was correct, the length was NOT! It would have been about 40" long instead of 59.41"! Fortunately I was able to buy more of my yarn in the same dye lot. I needed 5 additional skeins. So my advice is to buy several more skeins that you think you will need according to the pattern. You can always return them. (Check store's/website's return policy and keep your receipt!) added note- I used a different yarn- not the Lion Brand Homespun. I could not find my color in it.

This is one of the few afghan patterns I've seen that not only gives you stitch counts for smaller sizes, like a throw or baby blanket, but also larger sizes. The extra large size for this one would fit a queen size bed! If you have the time and dedication you can make something lovely for any bedroom.

I love the way Lion Brand Homespun yarn knits up. Its bulky weight and use of big needles is sure to make a big project go quickly. And when you are finished its lovely and snuggly. I really like that this pattern has options and yardage for creating the afghan all the way from a whopping 8.5 feet by 6.3 feet down to crib size and several sizes in between. This would be the perfect gift for a newlywed couple or to send with a child headed for college. Thanks for sharing the pattern.
