This knit wine bottle cozy pattern makes a great gift that's appropriate for a number of Christmas soirees and winter get-togethers. This simple yet elegant wine bottle cozy is finished off with a sparkly bow for a thoughtful finishing touch.

Knitting Needle Size7 or 4.5 mm

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Materials:

  • RED HEART® “Holiday” (Art. E759 available in 3.5 oz (100 g), 235 yd (215 m) balls): 1 ball 1360 Aran/Gold.
  • Knitting Needles: 4.5mm [US 7]
  • Cable needle
  • yarn needle

 


GAUGE: 27 sts = 4”; 22 rows = 4”, in 2x2 Rib.
CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.

 

Cozy measures 12½” tall.

k = knit
k2tog = knit 2 stitches together
p = purl
st(s) = stitch(es)
* = repeat whatever follows the * as indicated
[] = work directions in brackets the number of times specified.

 

Special Stitches
3/3 LC = 3 over 3 Left Cross – Slip next 3 sts to cable needle and hold in front, k3; then k3 from cable needle.
M1 = Make 1 (Increase) – Lift strand between needles to left-hand needle and knit strand through the back loop, twisting it to prevent a hole.
sk2p = Slip next stitch knitwise to right needle, k2tog, lift slipped st over the k2tog st and off needle.

 

COVER

Cuff
Cast on 34 sts.
Row 1 (Right Side): K2, *p2, k2; repeat from * across.
Row 2: P2, *k2, p2; repeat from * across.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until piece measures 5” from
beginning, end with a Wrong Side row.

Body
Row 1 (Right Side): *K2, M1; repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2—50 sts.
Row 2: [P2, k2, p6, k2] 4 times, p2.
Row 3: [K2, p2, 3/3 LC, p2] 4 times, k2.
Row 4: Repeat Row 2.
Row 5: [K2, p2, k6, p2] 4 times, k2.
Rows 6 and 7: Repeat Rows 4 and 5.
Repeat Rows 2–7 until piece measures 12½” from beginning or to desired height for bottle, end with a Wrong Side row.

Bottom
Row 1 (Right Side): [K1, sk2p, k5, sk2p] 4 times, k2—34 sts.
Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: [K5, sk2p] 4 times, k2—26 sts.
Row 4: Purl.
Row 5: [K3, sk2p] 4 times, k2—18 sts.
Row 6: Purl.
Row 7: [K1, sk2p] 4 times, k2—10 sts.
Cut yarn leaving a long tail. With yarn needle, thread tail through remaining 10 sts and pull to close opening. Using mattress stitch, sew side seam.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.

This will make an elegant gift but I am not sure it qualifies as a last minute project. Guess I should work it up and see just how long it takes. I like that it works for Christmas but really it could be used for any holiday or party. Make up a few in a variety of colors and you truly have the perfect last minute gift.

I love this idea. I am planning to repurpose this pattern to hold rolls of toilet paper. That will add elegance to our bathrooms.
