Cable Stitch Jar Cozies

Mason jar crafts and decorations are all the rage, and this darling knit cozy pattern is no exception. These Cable Stitch Jar Cozies are the perfect finishing touch to any of your bare and boring mason jars. Classic cable stitches make these cozies a charmingly rustic addition to any room of your home or apartment. Fill them with candy for an easy, last-minute present or put freshly picked flowers in them for a creative vase option.

Easy

Knitting Needle Size8 or 5 mm, Double-Pointed Knitting Needles (DPNs)

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Materials:

  • RED HEART® Soft®: 1 ball each 4600 White A, 9440 Light Grey Heather B, 9870 Deep Sea C
  • Susan Bates® Double-Pointed needles: One set 5mm [US 8]
  • Cable needle
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch marker

 

GAUGE: 18 sts = 4” [10 cm]; 21 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Stockinette st.
CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.

 

Fits standard size small and large Mason jars

Small finished circumference: 7” [18 cm]
Height: 5” [13 cm]
Large finished circumference: 8” [20 cm]
Height: 7” [18 cm]

 

Special Stitch
M1 (Make 1 increase) = Knit through front and
back of stitch, slip off needle.

 

NOTE
Jar cozies are worked in the round from the bottom up.
 

 

LARGE CABLED COZY

With A, cast on 12 sts.
Arrange stitches evenly around three double-pointed needles. Join, taking care not to twist sts. Place marker for beginning of round.
Round 1 (Right Side): Knit.
Round 2: M1 in each st – 24 sts.
Round 3: Knit.
Round 4: M1 in each st – 48 sts.
Rounds 5-10: Knit.
Round 11: *P2, k2, slip 2 sts to cable needle and hold to back of work, k2, k2 from cable needle, p2, k2; repeat from * to end of round.
Round 12: *P2, k6, p2, k2; repeat from * to end of round.
Round 13: *P2, k2, slip 2 sts to cable needle and hold to front of work, k2, k2 from cable needle, p2, k2; repeat from * to end of round.
Round 14: Repeat Round 12.
Rounds 15-18: Repeat Rounds 11-14 until piece measures 7” [18 cm] from beginning.
Bind off all sts.


FINISHING

Fasten off, weave in ends and block lightly if desired.

 

SMALL CABLED COZY

With B, cast on 15 sts.
Arrange stitches evenly around three double-pointed needles. Join, taking care not to twist sts. Place marker for beginning of round.
Rounds 1-4 (Right Side): Knit.
Round 5: M1 in each st – 30 sts.
Rounds 6-8: Knit.
Rounds 9-10: *K4, p2; repeat from * around.
Round 11: *Slip 2 sts on cable needle and hold to back of work, k2, k2 from cable needle, p2; repeat from * around.
Round 12: *K4, p2; repeat from * around.
Rounds 13-16: Repeat Rounds 9-12 until piece measures 5” [13 cm] from beginning.
Bind off all sts.

 

FINISHING

Fasten off, weaving in ends and block lightly if desired.


SMALL RIBBED COZY

With C, cast on 15 sts.
Arrange stitches evenly around three double-pointed needles. Join, taking care not to twist sts. Place marker for beginning of round.
Rounds 1-4 (Right Side): Knit.
Round 5: M1 in each st – 30 sts.
Rounds 6-8: Knit.
Round 9: *K3, p2; repeat from * around.
Round 10: *K1, p1, k1, p2; repeat from * around.
Rounds 11-12: * Repeat Rounds 9-10 until piece measures 5” [13 cm] from beginning.
Bind off all sts.


FINISHING

Fasten off, weave in ends and block lightly if desired.
