Knitting Needle Size8 or 5 mm

Gauge18 sts x 24 rows = 4" (10.2cm) in St st.

18 sts x 32 rows = 4" (10.2cm) in garter st.

Stitch Guide

Duplicate st:

Right Leg: Slide the needle from back to front at the bottom of the V of k st, follow the right leg up to end of st, slide the needle through both legs of the st above the st you are duplicating.
Left Leg: Insert the needle from front to back where you first inserted the needle at the bottom of the st that you are duplicating.

Rep for each st that you want to duplicate going up, then work to the side for sts. Do not work duplicate st going down; always go up or work sideways.

Notes

  1. This pat makes a set of four washcloths—one Garter Heart, one Seed Heart, and two Square Washcloths. The Square Washcloths are k following a chart and then embellished with duplicate st messages.

  2. Sl st as if to p with working yarn to the WS.

  3. For duplicate st, each count of a st on chart is the same count on the washcloth.

Garter Heart Washcloth

  1. Heart Top (make 2)

    Using A, CO 8 sts.

    Row 1: Wyif sl 1, kfb, k to end, turn.
    Rows 2-15: Rep Row 1. At end of Row 15, cut yarn—24 sts. Place sts on holder

  2. Heart Midsection

    Slide both Heart Tops onto same needle.

    Row 16: Wyif, sl 1, k across all 48 sts, turn.
    Rows 17-32: Rep Row 16.

  3. Heart Bottom

    Row 33: Wyif, sl 1, k2tog, k to end, turn.
    Next Rows: Rep Row 33 until 4 sts rem. BO. Weave in ends

Seed St Heart Washcloth

  1. Heart Top (make 2)

    Using B, CO 8 sts.

    Row 1: Wyif, sl 1, kfb, (k1, p1) to end, turn.
    Rows 2-15: Rep Row 1. At end of Row 15, cut yarn—24 sts. Place sts on holder.

  2. Heart Midsection

    Slide both Heart Tops onto same needle.

    Row 16: Wyif, sl 1, (k1, p1) across all 48 sts.
    Rows 17-32: Rep Row 16, turn.

  3. Heart Bottom

    Row 33: Wyif, sl 1, k2tog, (k1, p1) to end.
    Next Rows: Rep Row 33 until 4 sts rem. BO. Weave in ends.

Square Washcloths

  1. Washcloth (make 1 with C and 1 with D)

    CO 47 sts.

    Row 1 (RS): Beg working Square Washcloth chart.

    Cont working chart. On last row, BO and weave in ends.

  2. Duplicate St Details

    Following the Be Mine Heart chart, use C to add duplicate st lettering on the D Square Washcloth.

  3. Following the U R Cute chart, use B to add duplicate st lettering on the C Square washcloth.

    Weave in ends.
