Materials:

  • 321-202 Lion Brand Pelt: Mink - 2 Balls
  • Clover Bamboo Circular Knitting Needles 16” - Size 11
  • Brittany Birchwood Double Pointed Needles - Size 11
  • Lion Brand Split Ring Stitch Markers
  • Lion Brand Large-Eye Blunt Needles (Set of 6)

 

Gauge: 14 sts + 17 rnds = about 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k every rnd) worked in rnds

 

Measurements: About 20 in. (51 cm), will stretch to fit a range of sizes

 

Abbreviations:

beg = begin(s)(ning)
dec = decreas(e)(s)(ing)
k = knit
k2tog = knit 2 together
p = purl
rep = repeat(s)(ing)
rnd(s) = round(s)
St st = Stockinette stitch
st(s) = stitch(es)
tog = together

 

Stitch Explanation:

PATTERN STITCH
K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds (multiple of 2 sts)
Rnd 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to end of rnd.
Rep Rnd 1 for K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds.

 

Notes:

1. Hat is worked in the round.
2. Work begins on a circular needle, changing to double pointed needles when sts have been sufficiently decreased.

 

Instructions:


With circular needle, cast on 70 sts. Place marker for beg of rnd and join by working the first st on the lefthand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle, and being careful not to twist sts.
Work in K1, p1 Rib worked in rnds for 8 rnds.
Change to St st worked in the rnd (k every rnd) and work until piece measures about 7 in. (18 cm) from beg.
Next Decrease Rnd: * K5, k2tog, rep from * around – 60 sts at the end of this rnd.
Knit 1 rnd.
Next Decrease Rnd: * K4, k2tog, rep from * around – 50 sts.
Knit 1 rnd.
Next Decrease Rnd: * K3, k2tog, rep from * around – 40 sts.
Knit 1 rnd.
Divide sts onto the double pointed needles, with 10 sts on each of 4 needles.
Next Decrease Rnd: * K2, k2tog, rep from * around – 30 sts.
Knit 1 rnd.
Next Decrease Rnd: * K1, k2tog, rep from * around – 20 sts.
Knit 1 rnd.
Next Decrease Rnd: * K2tog, rep from * around – 10 sts.
Knit 1 rnd.
Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread yarn tail into blunt needle, then draw through remaining sts, pull to gather. Knot to secure.
Weave in ends.
