Bright Diamonds Cowl

With this free knit scarf pattern, you will not only learn how to knit a scarf but also how to work different colors into a single project. This colorful knit cowl is sure to turn a few heads once you're read to show it off.

Intermediate

Knitting Needle Size9 or 5.5 mm, 10.5 or 6.5 mm

Yarn Weight(5) Bulky/Chunky (12-15 stitches for 4 inches)

Gauge1 stitches, 2 rows, 3 inches. stockinette stitch

Materials:

  • Patons® Classic Wool Roving™ (3.5 oz/100 g; 120 yds/109 m) Main Color (MC) Pacific Teal (77203) - 2 balls; Contrast A Yellow (77615) - 1 ball; Contrast B Cherry (77709) - 1 ball; Contrast C Cloverleaf (77222) - 1 ball
  • Sizes U.S. 9 (5.5 mm) and U.S. 10½ (6.5 mm) circular knitting needles 24" [60 cm] long or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Stitch marker

GAUGE: 15 sts and 20 rows = 4" [10 cm] with larger needles in stocking stitch.

Measurements: Approx 11½" [29 cm] wide x 26" [66 cm] around.

Abbreviations:
Approx = Approximately
K1tbl = Knit next stitch through back of loop
P = Purl
Rep = Repeat
Rnd(s) = Round(s)
St(s) = Stitch(es
WS = Wrong side


Instructions:
Note: When working from chart, carry yarn not in use loosely across WS of work but never over more than 3 sts. When it must pass over more than 3 sts, weave it over and under color in use. The colors are never twisted around one another.

With smaller needle and MC, cast on 96 sts. Join in rnd, placing marker on first st.
Next rnd: *K1tbl. P1. Rep from * around.
Rep last rnd of twisted ribbing for 1½" [4 cm].

Change to larger needle.
Knit Chart in rnds, reading rnds from right to left, noting 12-st rep will be worked 8 times and rep 14 rnds of chart 3 times in total.

Change to smaller needle.
Next rnd: With MC, knit.
Next rnd: *K1tbl. P1. Rep from * around.
Rep last rnd of twisted ribbing for 1½" [4 cm].
Cast off in ribbing.
