Back and Front:
Cast on 3 stitches. Beginning with a knit row on RS work in St st for 80 rows.
Next row (RS): Knit 3, pick up 59 stitches along left edge of strip, then pick up 3 stitches along cast-on edge = 65 stitches.
Divide work as follows:
Next row (WS): Purl 3 (front border), place a stitch marker, purl 4 (left front), place marker, purl 4 (left sleeve), place marker, purl 20 (left back), place marker, purl 4 (center back), place marker, purl 20 (right back), place marker, purl 4 (right sleeve), place marker, purl 4 (right front), place marker, purl 2 (front border).

Then work rows 1 - 14 of Chart 2 three times over all stitches, keeping the border sts in St st.
Then work rows 1 - 11 of Chart 2 once more = 597 stitches.
Next row (WS): Purl to left sleeve, place next 79 sleeve stitches on a stitch holder (armhole opening), cast on 15 stitches, purl to right sleeve, place next 79 sleeve stitches on a stitch holder (armhole opening), cast on 15 stitches, purl to end = 469 stitches.
On the next RS row, work row 13 of Chart 2 = 481 stitches.
Then work row 1 - 14 of Chart 2 three times = 613 stitches. Bind off all stitches.
Sleeves:
Place the sts from one sleeve holder to needle and pick up 17 stitches along bound-off armhole sts = 96 stitches.
Join and work in the round following Chart 3, working the 16-st repeat 6 times. Work rounds 1 - 28 twice. Bind off sts loosely knitwise. Work other sleeve in same way.
Finishing:
Sew in all ends. Block bolero lightly.

. Where else can I find this pattern. If you have the original pdf why don't you make the correction on this site. The following link doesn't work http//us.schachenmayr.com/free-patterns/bolero-lac == e-pattern-s9046/Schachenmayr-Free-Pattern-S9046-Bo == lero-AjourmusterUS0.pdf

Has anyone knitted this bolero successfully? I have located the original pattern, noted that the number of stitches is different from this source to the original PDF. If someone could help I would be grateful.

Always go with the original or source of the pattern, the patterns on here are not updated and don't usually include any erratas, so the original is the best source of information.

Hi Linda. Thank you. The original pattern also has an error that has not been corrected. I am managing to knit the bolero, but not as it is written. I have not yet finished it. Unfortunately I did not write down the changes that I have made.

What a lovely bolero / shawl. Those colors are gorgeous and truly do look like a West Coast sunset in the summer. Great chart diagrams come with pattern. This shrug will look lovely paired with just about anything. You'll never want to put away wearing with this. Note that this is for the advanced knitter.

An experienced knitter can knit this lace bolero by following the pattern draft and the lace stitch pattern. I have knit items with just an item copied. It may be time consuming but well worth the effort.

I have not begun this pattern yet but read comments so googled Schachenmayr pattern S9046 (called Bolero in Lace Pattern by Schachenmayr). Beginning almost immediately, that pattern differs markedly from the one printed here. Please check out the one from google and let me know which one sounds right. There is obviously problems with the one here.

I have checked out this link at still find both patterns confusing as they are, but I started the pattern to find out where it went wrong. Chart 2 pattern needs 4 more stitches added to it so I added 4 more yarn overs, now it ends with 40 stitches instead of 36 so now I can do 2 chart 2s where 1 chart 2 was before. I have not finished but it is looking good and makes more sense than all the other instructions. Hope this helps

Help!! Appears to be an error in this pattern, as others have noted. Not enough stitches to continue repeats of Chart 2, after initial 14 rows. Very frustrating. Bought the yarn and now stuck. I am a very experienced knitter but don't really want to "write my own pattern." Help!!!!

Size small only? Thanks for nothing. I am not a math genius so no, I cannot figure out the entire pattern upsized -- that's why I look for patterns!

I'm confused--the 2nd paragraph after dividing the work states "Next row (RS) Knit 2, work 4-stitch repeat of Chart 1 twice, 20 stitches of Chart 2"...but the shortest row of Chart 1 is a 6 stitch repeat, and the shortest row of Chart 2 is a 22 stitch repeat---so---where are the repeats started ended for each chart on that row? (If it weren't for this question, I'd give the pattern a 5 star rating) wwwdel

adelebor, when reading the row of the charts, dont count the yarn overs as you have not created them yet so chart 1 only has 4 stitches and chart 2 only has 20 stitches to start with. So just knit the charts as they are.
