Ornamental Bells

This easy knitted gift will add a certain jingle to your holiday presents. These Ornamental Bells will spread Christmas cheer no matter how you use them! Easy

Knitting Needle Size7 or 4.5 mm

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Gauge20 stitches, 26 rows, 4 inches. stocking stitch

Materials:

  • Patons® Decor (100 g/3.5 oz) or Patons® Classic Wool (100 g/3.5 oz)
  • Note: One ball each of red and green makes 12 sets of Bells.
  • Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension
  • 2 jingle bells for each set

 

 

 

 


Gauge:  20 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with larger needles in stocking st.

 

 

 

 


Abbreviations:

  • K = knit
  • k2tog = Knit next 2 stitches together.
  • K3(4,n)tog = Knit next 3(4, n)stitches together.
  • st(s) = stitch(es)
  • tog = together

 

 

 

 


Instructions:


BELL: (Make 2). With red, cast on 12 sts.
1st row: (RS). Knit.
2nd row: K8. P4 (outer edge). Rep last 2 rows 11 times more.
Cast off leaving a long end. Draw end across rows of inner edge to gather top of Bell. Sew centre back seam.


LEAF: (Make 2).
With green, cast on 15 sts.
1st row: K6. K3tog. K6.
2nd row: Cast off 3 sts. Knit to end of row.
3rd row: Cast off 3 sts. K2 (including st on needle after cast off ). K3tog. K2.
4th and 5th rows: Cast on 3 sts. Knit to end of row.
6th row: Cast off 3 sts. Knit to end of row.
7th row: Cast off 3 sts. K1 (including st on needle after cast off ). K3tog. K1.
8th and 9th rows: Cast on 2 sts. Knit to end of row.
10th and 11th rows: Cast off 2 sts. Knit to end of row.
12th row: K3.
13th row: K3tog. Fasten off.


Finishing
Attach jingle bells to length of red yarn and secure inside Bells. Sew Leaves and Bells tog as shown in picture.
