Knitting Needle Size7 or 4.5 mm, Double-Pointed Knitting Needles (DPNs)

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Gauge20 stitches, 26 rows, 4 inches. stocking stitch

Materials:

  • Lily® Sugar’n Cream (2.5 oz/70.9 g; 120 yds/109 m) Main Color (MC) (00095 Red) 1 ball
  • Lily® Sugar’n Cream (2.5 oz/70.9 g; 120 yds/109 m) Contrast A (00001 White) 2 balls
  • Lily® Sugar’n Cream (2.5 oz/70.9 g; 120 yds/109 m) Contrast B (01712 Hot Green) 2 balls
  • Set of 4 size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) doublepointed knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge
  • 8 ins [20.5 cm] of satin ribbon
  • 5⁄8 inch [.5 cm] wide for loop

 

 


Gauge: 20 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

 

 

Measurements: Approx 14 ins [35.5 cm] long from cuff to heel.

 

 

 


Abbreviations:

  • Beg = beginning
  • P2tog = purl two stitches together
  • rem = remain(ing)
  • rep = repeat
  • rnd(s) = round(s)
  • Rnd = Round
  • RS = right side
  • Sl st = Slip stitch
  • Sl1 = Slip next stitch knitwise.
  • Sl1P = Slip next stitch purlwise.
  • ssk = Slip next 2 stitches knitwise one at a time. Pass them back onto left-hand needle, then knit through back loops together.
  • st(s) = stitch(es)

 

 

 

Instructions:


With A, cast on 68 sts loosely. Join in rnd and divide evenly onto 3 needle as (22, 24, 22) sts, placing marker on first st for beg of rnd.
1st rnd: *K2. P2. Rep from * around. Rep last rnd of (K2. P2) ribbing for 2 ins [5 cm]. Change to MC and knit in rnds for 2 ins [5 cm]. **With B, knit in rnds for 2 ins [5 cm]. With MC, knit in rnds for 2 ins [5 cm].** Rep from ** to ** once more.


Heel: Slip last 17 sts from third needle and first 17 sts from first needle onto 1 needle for heel, having marker in center. Leave rem 34 sts on 2 needles for instep. Break MC. Join A to RS of work and proceed across 34 heel sts as follows:
1st row: (RS). Sl1. Knit to end of row.
2nd row: Sl1P. Purl to end of row. Rep last 2 rows until heel measures 2¼ ins [5.5 cm].
Shape heel: 1st row: (RS). Sl1. K24. ssk. K1. Turn.
2nd row: Sl1P. P17. P2tog. P1.
Turn.
3rd row: Sl1. K18. ssk. K1. Turn.
4th row: Sl1P. P19. P2tog. P1.
Turn.
5th row: Sl1. K20. ssk. K1. Turn.
6th row: Sl1P. P21. P2tog P1.
Turn.
7th row: Sl1. K22. ssk. K1. Turn.
8th row: Sl1P. P23. P2tog. P1.
9th row: Knit. 26 sts. With RS facing and B, pick up and knit 12 sts along left side of heel. With second needle, knit across 34 sts of instep. With third needle, pick up and knit 12 sts along right side of heel. Knit first 13 sts from heel onto third needle. Slip rem 13 sts of heel onto beg of 1st needle. 84 sts are now divided as 25 sts on first needle, 34 sts on second needle and 25 sts on third needle.


Cont knitting in rnds as follows:
1st rnd: 1st needle: Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1. 2nd needle: Knit. 3rd needle: K1. ssk. Knit to end of needle.
2nd rnd: Knit. Rep last 2 rnds to 68 sts, divided as 17 sts on first needle, 34 sts on second needle and 17 sts on third needle. Knit even in rnds until stripe B measures 2 ins [5 cm]. With MC, knit in rnds for 2 ins [5 cm]. Break MC.


Shape toe: 1st rnd: 1st needle: With A, knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1. 2nd needle: K1. ssk. Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1. 3rd needle: K1. ssk. Knit to end of needle.
2nd rnd: Knit. Rep last 2 rnds to 28 sts. Knit sts from first needle onto third needle. Graft 2 sets of 14 sts tog for toe.


Loop: Fold Satin ribbon in half and sew to top edge of Stocking.
