This is a nice watch cap or skull cap pattern with a wide cuff of ribbing at the bottom (not brim as others have noted). I like the large cuff because it becomes adjustable - you can pull it down over your ears and neck when it's really cold, then fold it up more when it's warmer outside.

Really had my hopes up for a wide brim - but this is actually a hat with a deep cuff -- it is a neat toque but not what I had hoped for still looking for that wide brim

I would love a pattern for an actual wide brim hat and directions to felt it.

I agree with another post - it's not a "wide brim" hat, it's a "wide cuff" hat. A brim stands out from the head & provides protection from rain or sun. A cuff hugs the head & adds an extra layer of warmth over the ears. This is a good wide cuff hat! -- I used to have a pattern for a medium or wide brim hat that you knitted (huge), then felted & shrank it down to the desired size. (I used several sizes of up-side- down mixing bowls for "hat forms" for those hats that I made for gifts!) I lost that pattern in a move, & wish I could find one like it again!

I agree with Nana Karen. It's not a brim at all, it is a cuff. I too would like to find a pattern for a hat with a true brim-keep that low slanting winter sun out of my eyes.

Pattern materials" size 6 or size 16...should read size 6 16"

I notice in the instructions that after making the brim it says to work 30 rows of stockinette then is says (K every round). K every round is a garter stitch. This is confusing since stockinette is K one row, P one row. So, which one is it? Stockinette or garter. The picture does shows stockinette.

Your confusion results from the fact that when you knit round and round, (and not back and forth) on the circular needle, all stitches are facing the same way, so it looks the same as stockenette stitch when worked back and forth, (which also keeps the stitches all facing the same way.)Just keep working the knitted stitches as instructed.

I have been looking for a pattern for a hat knit with circular needles. Thanks so much.

This is not a wide-brimmed hat. It should be called a cap, or a watch cap.

What is it then?

Wide brimmed goes out from the bottom not up the hat (think cowboy hat brim)
