Knitting Needle Size5 or 3.75 mm, 7 or 4.5 mm, Circular Knitting Needles

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Materials:

  • Lily® Sugar’n Cream® (Solids: 70.9 g/2.5 oz; 109 m/120 yds; Ombres: 56.7 g/2 oz; 86 m/95 yds)
    • Contrast A Swimming Pool (02744) - 4 balls or 280 m/310 yds
    • Contrast B Hot Orange (01628) - 2 balls or 124 m/130 yds
  • Size 3.75 mm (U.S. 5) knitting needles
  • Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) circular knitting needle 24" [60 cm] long or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Stitch marker

 

GAUGE
20 sts and 26 rows = 4" [10 cm] with larger needles in stocking st.

 

MEASUREMENTS
Approx 13" [33 cm] wide x 11" [28 cm] high (excluding handles).

 

INSTRUCTIONS

Base:
With B and smaller pair of needles, cast on 11 sts.
 

Work 12 1/2" [32 cm] in garter st (knit every row). Do not cast off. Place marker on center st of last row. Break B.
 

Body of Bag:
With A and circular needle, beg at marked st, K6 from Base. Pick up and knit 71 sts across long edge of Base, 11 sts across cast on edge of Base and 71 sts across opposite long edge of Base. Knit rem 5 sts from Base. 164 sts. Join in rnd, placing a marker on first st.
 

Proceed in pat as follows:
1st rnd: *K4. K2tog. K1. yo. Rep from * to last 3 sts. K3.
2nd rnd: *K3. K2tog. K2. yo. Rep from * to last 3 sts. K3.
3rd rnd: *K2. K2tog. K3. yo. Rep from * to last 3 sts. K3.
4th rnd: *K1. K2tog. K4. yo. Rep from * to last 3 sts. K3.
5th rnd: *K2tog. K5. yo. Rep from * to last 3 sts. K3.
6th rnd: K3. *yo. K1. ssk. K4. Rep from * around.
7th rnd: K3. *yo. K2. ssk. K3. Rep from * around.
8th rnd: K3. *yo. K3. ssk. K2. Rep from * around.
9th rnd: K3. *yo. K4. ssk. K1. Rep from * around.
10th rnd: K3. *yo. K5. ssk. Rep from * around.
These 10 rnds form pat.


Cont in pat until Body of Bag measures approx 10" [25.5 cm], ending on a 5th or 10th rnd of pat. Break A.


Next rnd: With B, *K9. K2tog. Rep from * to last 10 sts. K2tog. K8. 149 sts.
Next rnd: Purl.
Next rnd: Knit.
Rep last 2 rnds twice more. Cast off purlwise.


Handles (make 2)
With B and smaller pair of needles, cast on 92 sts.
Knit 16 rows (garter st). Cast off.
Fold Handles in half lengthwise and sew cast on and cast off edges tog.


Sew ends of Handles 4" [10 cm] in from side edges of Bag, as shown in photo.

Very cute bag. I like the wavy pattern and that is made with cotton so it will have some body. The instructions seem to be clear and easy to follow. This could certainly be made to go with any outfit or in more sutle hues to go with everything.
