Knitting Needle Size11 or 8 mm

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

GaugeGAUGE: 12 sts = 4” [10 cm]; 24 rows = 4” [10 cm] with (A) and yarn held double strand (2 stands held together) in Garter Stitch (knit every row). CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.

Finished SizeHeart Pillow measures 12” x 12” [30 cm x 30 cm]

  • RED HEART® Boutique Fur™: 3 balls 9701 Azalea B
  • Susan Bates Knitting Needles: 8mm [US 11]
  • Polyester fiberfill
  • Stitch holder
  • Yarn needle

Special Stitches

Garter Stitch = Knit every row.
KFB = Knit in Front and Back of Stitch. Increase is made by knitting into the front and back of a stitch.
Whip Stitch = Hold Front and Back pieces together, insert needle under both loops of the first stitch of both pieces to be seamed. Pull yarn through, insert the needle under both loops of the second stitch of each piece. Pull yarn through. Continue to stitch through each set of stitches, going in the same direction with the needle across seam.

Pillow

Back
Wind (A) into 2 equal size balls. Holding 2 stands of (A) together (1 strand from each ball), cast on 2 stitches.
Next Row: KFB in first stitch (1 stitch increase), knit to end of row—3 sts. Repeat last row 33 more times—36 sts. Continue working in Garter Stitch (knit every row) until piece measures 9” [23 cm] from cast on stitches, measuring from bottom to top in middle of piece, not along edges.

Make Split for Top of Heart

Next Row: Knit 18 sts and place remaining 18 sts on Stitch Holder. Continue working 18 sts in Garter Stitch for 2” [5 cm].
Next Rows: Continuing in Garter Stitch, bind off 1 st at the beginning of the next 6 rows—12 sts. Bind off all stitches.
Slip the remaining 18 sts from stitch holder to knitting needle. Continuing in Garter Stitch, bind off 1 st at the beginning of the next 6 rows—12 sts. Bind off all stitches. Set Back piece aside for later Assembly.

Front

With single strand of (B), cast on 2 stitches.
Next Row: KFB in first stitch (1 stitch increase), knit to end of row—3 sts. Repeat last row 17 more times—20 sts. Work in Garter Stitch (knit every row) until piece measures 9” [23 cm] from cast on stitches, measuring from bottom to top in middle of piece, not along edges.

Make Split for Top of Heart

Next Row: Knit 10 sts and place remaining 10 sts on stitch holder. Continue working 10 sts in Garter Stitch for 6 rows.
Next Rows: Continuing in Garter Stitch, bind off 1 st at the beginning of the next 6 rows—4 sts. Bind off all stitches.
Slip the remaining 10 sts from stitch holder to knitting needle. Continuing in Garter Stitch, bind off 1 st at the beginning of the next 6 rows—4 sts. Bind off all stitches.

Assembly

With wrong sides together, using (B) and yarn needle, sew (using Whip Stitch) Front and Back pieces together. Tuck ends inside as you sew. Leave a 3”-4” [8-10 cm] opening and stuff pillow with polyester fiberfill, sew opening closed after stuffing.

Finishing

Weave ends to inside of pillow.

This is a very cute pillow and would have been awesome if I had found it before Valentines day because I know the perfect girl that would have loved this to put on her bed. I did look over the list of materials required and noticed that it used Red Heart Boutique fur yarn. It is almost impossible to find this yarn.
