  • Size 8 Circular Knitting Needle
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Stitch Markers

 


GAUGE
In garter st, 16 sts and 30 rows = 4"/10 cm

 


MEASUREMENTS
Finished measurements: 45”/114.5cm x 45”/114.5cm

 

 

INSTRUCTIONS

Using A, CO 180 sts, place marker, CO 180 sts--360 sts.
Row 1 (WS): Knit.
Row 2 (RS): Knit to 2 sts before marker, k2tog, slip marker, k2tog, knit to end - 2 decs made.
Rows 3-8: Repeat these 2 rows 2 more times, then Row 1 once. Cut A.
Join B. Work Rows 2 and 1 twice. Do not cut B.
Join C. Work Rows 2 and 1 twice. Do not cut C.
Continue in pattern alternating 4 rows B and 4 rows C until 4 sts remain.
Next Row: K4tog.
Finish off.


Edging
With RS facing and A, pick up and knit 180 sts along one side edge (not CO edge). Knit 8 rows. BO.
With RS facing and A, pick up and knit 180 sts along remaining side edge. Knit 8 rows. BO.


LARGE BUTTERFLY


Wings (make 2)
Using A, CO 25 sts, place marker, CO 25 sts - 50 sts.
Row 1 (RS): Kfb, knit to 2 sts before marker, k2tog, slip marker, k2tog, knit to end, kfb.
Row 2: Knit.
Rows 3-14: Repeat these 2 rows 6 more times (7 ridges).
Row 15: Knit to 2 sts before marker, k2tog, slip marker, k2tog, knit to end - 2 decs made.
Row 16: Knit.
Rows 17-26: Repeat these 2 rows 5 more times (6 ridges) - 38 sts.
Row 27: K2tog, knit to 2 sts before marker, k2tog, slip marker, k2tog, knit to last 2 sts, k2tog - 34 sts.
Row 28: Knit. Cut A.
Rows 29-34: Join B. Using B, repeat these 2 rows 3 more times (4 ridges) - 22 sts.
BO all sts.

Body
Using C, CO 30 sts.
Row 1: BO 5 sts, knit across.
Row 2: Knit.
Row 3: Knit.
Row 4: Knit to end, CO 5 sts.
BO all sts.


SMALL BUTTERFLIES (make 2)


Wings (make 4)
Using A, CO 15 sts, place marker, CO 15 sts - 30 sts.
Row 1 (RS): Kfb, knit to 2 sts before marker, k2tog, slip marker, k2tog, knit to end, kfb.
Row 2: Knit.
Rows 3-14: Repeat these 2 rows 6 more times (6 ridges).
Row 15: Knit to 2 sts before marker, k2tog, slip marker, k2tog, knit to end - 28 sts.
Row 16: Knit.
Rows 17-26: Repeat these 2 rows 5 more times (6 ridges) - 18 sts.
Row 27: K2tog, knit to 2 sts before marker, k2tog, slip marker, k2tog, knit to last 2 sts, k2tog - 14 sts.
Row 28: Knit. Cut A.
Rows 29-34: Join B and repeat last 2 rows 3 more times (2 ridges) - 2 sts.
BO all sts.


Body
Using C, CO 25 sts.
Row 1: BO 5 sts, knit across.
Row 2: Knit.
Row 3: Knit.
Row 4: Knit across, CO 5 sts.
BO all sts.
Butterfly assembly
Overlap points of CO edges, angling slightly. Lay body on top of wings. Tack together.


FINISHING

Sew butterflies onto blanket as desired.
Using yarn needle, weave in ends.
