The brick stitch rightfully received its name for giving the appearance of tiny brick building blocks in your knitting project.

This knitting stitch can easily be used in all different kinds of projects ranging from a knit dishcloth all the way to a chunky knit blanket! If you are new to colorwork in knitting, this stitch is a great introduction to it. It only uses two colors, and this particular method of colorwork, called mosaic knitting, is one of the easiest out there, and it's much easier than things like Fair Isle knitting or intarsia.

Instructions

  1. CO mult of 4 sts + 3.

  2. Rows 1-2: Clr A, k across.

  3. Row 3: (RS) Clr B, k1, (sl 1 wyib, k3), sl 1 wyib, k1.

  4. Row 4: (WS) Clr B, p1, (sl 1 wyif, p3), sl 1 wyif, p1.

  5. Row 5-6: Clr A, k across.

  6. Row 7: (RS) Clr B, k3, (sl 1 wyib, k3).

  7. Row 8: (WS) Clr B, p3, (sl 1 wyif, p3).
