How to Knit the Drop Stitch

This simple but stunning stitch is great for knitters who want to ease their way into the world of lace knitting.

How to Knit the Drop Stitch

The drop stitch is one of the best knitting stitches for beginners to learn when they're taking a step beyond stockinette and garter stitch. It's so simple to do, but it has the appearance of a subtle lace.

Dropped stitches are an essential knitting technique for beginners to learn, and it's usually one of the first ways knitters learn to use a sort of increase to make a decorative design. With the drop stitch, you can knit all of those light and lacy patterns for spring and summer you've been eyeballing! It's not so hard, after all.

Typically this stitch is used in shawls and scarves, but the possibilities are truly endless.
