Instructions

Placemat (make 4)

  1. With MC, cast on 85 sts. Knit 4 rows (garter st), noting first row is WS.

  2. Inc row: *K1. M1. K2. M1. K2. Rep from * to end of row. 119 sts.

  3. Next row: (RS). K2. *Insert needle from back to front between next 2 sts on left-hand needle. Knit second st, then knit first st slipping both sts off needle at same time. Rep from * to last st. K1.

  4. Next row: P2. *Skip first st on the left-hand needle and purl second st, then purl first st slipping both sts off needle at same time. Rep from * to last st. P1. Rep last 2 rows for Pat. Cont in pat until work from beg measures 12¼ ins [31 cm] ending with a RS row.

  5. Dec row: (WS). *K1. K2tog. K1. K2tog. K1. Rep from * to end of row. 85 sts. Knit 3 rows (garter st). Cast off knitwise (WS).

Pocket (make 4)

  1. With A and pair of double-pointed needles, cast on 5 sts.

  2. Next row: K5. Slide sts to opposite end of needle. Do not turn. Rep last row 6 times more. Change to straight needles if desired.

  3. Next row: Purl. Proceed as follows:
