Why Do Babies Wear Mittens?

Usually when you think of mittens, you think of a warm weather item that has a large spot for your fingers and a smaller spot for your thumb. For babies, however, mittens are for their protection. Newborns actually have super sharp nails that are difficult to cut, so they often wear mittens to protect themselves. Infants don't have a lot of control over their arm movements and can really harm themselves with their nails.

These baby mittens serve an important purpose while being adorable. A set of these in multiple colors would be a sweet gift for someone that is expecting. A few could be made with cotton yarn so they would be cool in the spring and summertime and others with a wool yarn for the cooler fall and winter months. A variety of sizes would be nice, too, so that they can continue to wear them as they grow!
