Gauge15 sts = 4” [10 cm]; 19 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.

Finished Size7.25” [18.5 cm] wide x 72” [183 cm] long (excluding fringe)

  • Susan Bates® Knitting Needles: 5.5mm [US 8] 
  • Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 5.5mm [US J/9]
  • Yarn needle

Instructions

Scarf

  1. Cast on 28 stitches.

  2. Starting with a RS row, knit 8 rows.

  3. Row 9 (Right Side): Knit.

  4. Row 10 (Wrong Side): Knit 4, purl 20, knit 4.

  5. Repeat Rows 9-10 until piece measures 71” from cast-on edge, ending after a WS row.

  6. Knit 8 rows.

  7. Bind off all sts.

Finishing

Weave in all ends. 

Fringe

  1. Cut yarn into ninety 10” [25.5 cm] lengths. 

  2. Hold 5 strands of yarn together and fold in half forming a loop at one end. *Insert crochet hook into corner of one short edge of scarf and place loop on hook. Draw loop through, insert ends through loop and pull to tighten; repeat from * to attach a total of 9 fringes evenly across edge. 

  3. Repeat for other short edge of scarf. 

  4. Trim fringe evenly. 

  5. Using a press cloth and warm iron, press the scarf flat to remove any curl.
