Knitting Needle Size9 or 5.5 mm, Double-Pointed Knitting Needles (DPNs)

Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Finished SizeTo fit thigh measurement: 8 (10)” [20 (25) cm]. Finished length: 8½ (10)” [22 (25) cm].

Baby Leg Warmers (Make 2)

The main body of the leg warmers are worked in the round. The lace cuff embellishments are worked flat and sewn into place. The darker pink ("Pinkie") is yarn A. The lighter pink ("Frosting") is yarn B. Directions are for size 12 months; changes for size 24 months are in parentheses.

Cable Knitting Pattern

  1. CB4 (Cable 4 Back): Place 2 sts on cable needle and hold in back. Knit next 2 sts from the left hand needle. Knit 2 sts from cable needle. 

  2. CF4 (Cable 4 Front): Place 2 sts on cable needle and hold in front. Knit next 2 sts from the left hand needle. Knit 2 sts from cable needle

Knit Leg Warmers

  1. With A, cast on 42 (54) sts. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist sts

  2. Rounds 1-2: Knit

  3. Round 3: *K2, CB4; repeat from * around.

  4. Rounds 4-6: Knit.

  5. Round 7: *CF4, K2; repeat from * around.

  6. Round 8: Knit.

  7. Repeat Rounds 1-8 until work measures 8½ (10)” [22 (25) cm]. Bind off.

Lace Cuff

  1. With B, cast on 8 sts. 

  2. Row 1: K2, [YO, K2tog] twice, K1, [YO] twice, K1—10 sts.

  3. Row 2: K1, drop YO, [K1, P1, K1] in next YO, K7—11 sts.

  4. Row 3: K2, YO, K2tog, K1, YO, K2tog, K4.

  5. Row 4: K11.

  6. Row 5: K2, YO, K2tog, K2, YO, K2tog, K3.

  7. Row 6: Bind off 3 sts, K7.

  8. Repeat Rows 1-6 until lace measures 8 (10)” [20 (25) cm]. Bind off all sts. 

Finishing

  1. With yarn needle, sew lace cuff onto legwarmer. Refer to photo for placement. (Click on photo to zoom in.) Weave in all loose ends.

  2. Optional: Weave a satin ribbon in and out of the eyelet in the cuff. To secure, tie the ribbon together where the ends of the cuff meet.
